Obviously I would like to answer your question but I don't want to run afoul of any copyright laws. As such, I won't to speak in detail about Brian Shulman's book at this time.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI haven't read it. But enlighten me. Is it bad sportsmanship to say you hate your opponents, hate everything they and their school stand for, and they are wicked people who deserve no divine favor?Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

That is not bad sportsmanship per se, but it is bad sportsmanship's mother and father.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIs it bad sportsmanship to say you hate your opponents, hate everything they and their school stand for, and they are wicked people who deserve no divine favor?“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Well said JIC.
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Agreed. Among the regulars, what may look (to an outsider) as cruel and unusual is actually good-natured ribbing or cheap shots with a tongue-in-cheek approach. The long-timers here are very good at it - and they have a history of some years of doing that to each other now. I see a lot of disagreements. I see very little nastiness.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostA miracle of this site is that the dialogue is so feewheeling and punchy, but I agree it hardly ever gets nasty. If that happens it usually involves exUte or a newbie who hasn't got the groove yet. It is possible to advocate for and defend what you believe with those who disagree and remain friends. Maybe the "anonymity" helps in that regard.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

The key to good internet communities, based upon sports rivalries, is size. If it stays small people can understand the inside jokes and the culture built through its history. When you start getting too many participants more and more will not understand the history and they take offense and that pollutes the waters.Originally posted by nikuman View PostAgreed. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I do believe I commented upon the god given beauty of some scando chick Erin, Gustafson or something or another, who ran double x at the 1000 Oaks. Mike Lindsey was a good friend of mine who I attended WP with and Steve Cisco sat next to me in Drivers School at the Simi Valley Bowling alley!
But for the most part I hate TOHS. I hate everything about them. I hate their fans and everybody affiliated with that school. They are classless and made fun of our football team every year!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I pointed out that too many participants is an issue. Do you want sloppy 9,678,456,543,765,898,013,369ths on Jenna Jameson?Originally posted by YOhio View PostWhat? Boobs aren't in anymore?
That's what I thought. We can anatomically alter much about the top shelf here, but nobody wants to jump on a Greyhound bus!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

My suggestion would be to separate out the categories like they were in CG.
Either a Ute sports category and a BYU sports category or four categories Utah BB, Utah FB, BYU BB, BYU FB. Then if you're a BYU fan like me, you stay in the BYU category and don't get tempted to talk Ute smack. (I admit I have weakness, but I try not to) If you're a fan of both or have interest in both, you go into both categories, but you know you're a visitor, and as a visitor you should have some respect for the home team. There would still be smack, but I think that would lessen it.
There's an element of positive vigilanteeism and self moderation when the relationship is many to one. You look like a jerk going into a room of 100 Ute fans and talking rivalry smack. If you go into a room of 50 Ute fans and have 50 BYU fans backing you up, you feel free to go off with no self moderation.

Mrs. PAC is thrilled at the news you, apparently, were a Buena Bulldog. She is a proud alumna (Class o' 71). Her yearbook includes a nice shot of fellow Bulldog, Kevin Costner, rocking the short shorts on Buena's C basketball team. Sorry for the brief interruption, back to sportsmanship....Originally posted by Solon View PostAmen, brother. Amen.

You went to Mala HS? I didn't know that. You grew up in Ventura?Originally posted by Solon View PostAmen, brother. Amen.

My aunt lived in the Keys, right off Seaward. Loved going to her house growing up. Literally right on the sand. She would head off in the evenings to hang out at the Pierpont Inn and have drinks.
