      • Chip says "I think USC is the most talented team in the country", when asked about his reaction to Barkley staying "I threw up. I did it with Luck and again this year, someone needs to tell these guys they need to leave after three years. Maybe Larry Scott".

Chip is playing possum. All of this hype is making me really nervous given the lack of depth at some key positions.

However, can't argue that Kiff's biggest recruit for the 2012 season was Matt Barkley.

That being said, Silas Redd, Curtis McNeal, Marquise Lee, Robert Woods.....hype or no, that is still a decent list of options for a QB.

I'm not convinced about McNeal and Redd being great (they are obviously good players), but Lee and Woods might be the two best WRs in the country. Both future first round locks.

They are not as good a tandem as Lee/Woods are at their positions, but after Barner and Green Mamba, can you name a better backfield tandem in the PAC? Or anywhere else? There aren't many, especially considering that they also get to line up behind Lee and Woods. That is going to create a lot of space that other backs don't get.

My main concern with Redd and McNeal is that neither one is really a short yardage back. They are both smaller dudes, although Redd does like to run North South. That being said, Barner and Green mamba are small dudes, too. Didn't seem to hurt them much in the Rose Bowl.

I am excited to see what these guys can do. The Syracuse game will be a fun NYC roadie.

No I think he means it. The top 22 at USC is more talented than anywhere else. The next question from Dan Patrick was something like does that mean they are the best team in the country and Chip's response was something akin to "that's why you play the games, we'll find out". There is no questioning the talent in the starters though, it is better than Oregon. The Ducks talent may better fit the system Oregon runs, but just football talent for football talent USC is higher. I think Chip believes that also.

These things aren't new. Southern Cal will always have more talent, and always has. They have something like 40 conference titles in the last 100 years, they win it basically every other year.

That's why Oregon fans are so talkative and excited now, this run is something that doesn't happen in the Pac. That's why 20+ years later Washington fans still feel like they are certified bad asses.

Utah thought they got a great deal, instead they got put in the closet with a monster and no chance of escape.

But one of these days, we'll come out of the closet!

                      • Outside of USC, I think the PAC 8/10/12 has rarely even won a national championship. In the last 50 years it has been USC a bunch, Washington in the early 90s, and UCLA way back in the day. Technically you could add Colorado as well but they weren't in the PAC then.

I agree it goes without saying that SC has and likely will always have more talent than everybody else. But the disparity for 2013 is absolutely staggering. Even if SC had 6 top 150 and the rest of the conference had 12, it would be an exorbitant advantage. That kind of advantage would be consistent with the 40 titles in 100 years. But for SC to have 12 and other 11 teams to have 6 between them would be comparable to SC having 65-70 titles in the 100 years.

That said, as you implied above, you are very fortunate to have Chip Kelly and the talent he has on that team this year. If the RS freshman QB performs, Oregon could be every bit as good as USC.

                            • Mora is going to be a fun person, I can already tell

                              http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_2...as-grand-plans

The 50-year-old, who's never been a head coach of a collegiate program, has bold plans.

"I would like us to be competing - I don't know what the structure will be - to play in the national championship every year," Mora said. "I want us to be a legit contender in five years."

Asked if it helped having crosstown rival USC in his backyard already doing that, Mora asked:

"When was the last time they won the national championship?"

Eight years ago, according to the Associated Press. (The BCS stripped the Trojans of that championship after the Reggie Bush scandal.) USC won in 2003 and 2004 under Pete Carroll and has 11 national championships.

"If you think lately in this business is eight years ...," Mora said during a sitdown interview at camp in San Bernardino.
USC has its own new motto - unveiled to the public last week. In its state-of-the-art, $70 million John McKay Center, there is a team meeting room with a beautiful skyline photo and the message: "We own L.A."

No doubt that makes Mora cringe, even if every part of it is true.

Mora maintains he's all about UCLA and often is careful not to mention the other school by name.

"I don't even think about them, quite frankly," Mora said. "They don't even enter into my orbit. I understand the rivalry and all that kind of stuff, but my focus is on UCLA football."
