I didn't buy a Sugar Bowl ticket because the reasons I stayed home were already in place before the Utah/TCU game. The outcome of the game had absolutely no bearing on whether I was going to New Orleans to see it.

Did I expect the Utes to win? My truthful answer is that the only thing I ever expect to happen in games, no matter the sport, is to be entertained. I felt the Utes could win it if they played their best game of the season, but I didn't expect them to win or lose.

And it is absolute BS because you assume to know why the majority of those that didn't go chose to not go.

You seem to be assuming to know. You are just assuming that they had really good reasons unrelated to the one I am giving. How is that different?

I maintained that if things fell right, a win was possible, but I didn't want to make any guarantees to give Alabama any bulletin board material.

I think that most thought that Utah shouldn't have been in the discussion prior to the game, but that the game was an opportunity for Utah to earn its way into the NC discussion. Not only did they win, but they hit Alabama in the mouth time and time again with little to no response. It was a performance that not only shocked Utah County, but the nation at large.

They won and they earned the respect that the nation and pundits weren't giving them before hand.

Maybe I missed it but how come before Utah played Bama we didnt see any posts that said things like:

"If utah beats Bama in 2 weeks they belong in the NC discussion"

or

"Utah should be playing in the national title game not the Sugar Bowl?

Were you just happy that Utah was in another BCS game? Now all of the sudden because you beat Bama you deserve a shot at the national title? What about the teams that before their bowl game deserved a shot? Like USC, Texas, Florida and Oklahoma?

Had we played Michigan at the end of the season, then yes.

I can see that, but Oklahoma and Texas have been kicking the ass of top 10 teams all year long. They didnt just do it once.

It just seems silly to me that after 1 game Utah all of the sudden deserves to be national champs, when even at 12-0 nobody was bitching that they didnt have a shot at the title.

No one deserves to be national champions. I don't think Utah is the best team in the country at all, but I think they have a claim to a M NC as much as anyone.

I think the obvious answer is that nobody really thought Utah would win like THAT. I know orangeute and others believed a win was possible, but an ass kicking was not in the equation. After watching that game, it became obvious to a lot of people that Utah belongs in that conversation but prior to that game it just didn't feel that way.
