Here's a wild thought. If the MWC were to extend an offer to BSU is it possible that the WAC would turn around and invite one of our lessers? I know there is a money issue at hand here, but if you are a Wyoming or a New Mexico or even a CSU and the best you could hope for is the lower end of the top 5 would you considered a move?

Your answer is there. I guess it is the same reason Vandy doesn't join the sunbelt.

Here's another wild thought...could the MWC poach a mid-level B12/P10 team? If the MWC (with BSU) had an autobid and said team saw the MWC as an easier road to a BCS game than B12/P10 without OU/Texas or Nebraska or USC in the way, would they come?Originally posted by DrumNFeather View PostHere's a wild thought. I would think that Colorado would think about it.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostHere's another wild thought...could the MWC poach a mid-level B12/P10 team? Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I could see Colorado being willing to jump. Extremely logical for them. And it gives them CSU as an immediate rival.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostHere's another wild thought...could the MWC poach a mid-level B12/P10 team? We should go after BSU and CU. That wouldn't suck at all.

I think it'd be even cooler to get UA and ASU back.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostI could see Colorado being willing to jump. Extremely logical for them. And it gives them CSU as an immediate rival.

The problem with CU is that they drag down our average. If we're on the bubble, they could take us out of it.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

No, they play every team in the conference. 9 league games 3 OOC's, for a total of 12 games. One year 5 conference home games, one year 4 conference home games.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostRight, but they don't play every team in the conference, right? So they still have an equal number of home games and road games in conference. How do they decide which team each team does not play during the year?

Let's just end this discussion right now- the answer is no, Colorado would never in a million years go to the MWC if the MWC became an AQ BCS conference. The Big East was an automatic qualifying conference and BC, Va Tech and Miami couldn't wait to jump to the ACC's greener pastures. Going to the MWC in terms of exposure, respect and TV money is a definite step down from being in the Big 12.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostI could see Colorado being willing to jump. We should go after BSU and CU. That wouldn't suck at all.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

thereby making a conference championship game illogical.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postthey play everyone in conference
I think the better solution is for the SEC to kick out some of the carpetbaggers, eliminate the championship game, stop playing D2 schools, and face Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn every single year.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I suppose many Pac-10 fans like this system and that's really what counts, but the round robin schedule is hurting the Pac-10. If the Pac-10 followed the SEC school of scheduling, it would load up on Div. III schools and come into conference play with bloated records. Then they increase their schedule strength by playing each other. By playing 9 conference games as opposed to 8 conference games like the other BCS conferences, the Pac-10 is automatically losing 5 more games every year (and the SEC automatically wins these games because they seem to all have Oral Roberts U on their schedules). Those 5 games make a big difference because a 9-3 team can ranked 13-18 while an 8-4 team is barely hanging onto the top 25. The SEC sits there with a bunch of teams like LSU and Ole Miss hanging out at around #15 and everyone talks about how great the conference is. It also has an effect on the computer polls.Originally posted by Flystripper View Postthey play everyone in conference
The actual numbers pertaining to direct W-L records in Pac 10 v. SEC games and games between the Pac 10 and other elite nonconference opponents in comparison with the SEC numbers bears out that the Pac 10 is clearly at least the second best conference in the country and very nearly on par with the SEC.
The SEC and Big 12 scheduling strategies are what routinely enables them to put 1 loss Florida and Oklahoma teams in the national title game over 1 loss USC. I firmly believe that 2007 USC would have kicked 2007 LSU's ass, and that 2008 USC would have done the same thing to 2008 Florida.
The round robin schedule isn't the only thing that's causing the problem. There's too much parity and only one alpha dog (you need at least two alpha dogs and more patsies), the Pac 10 doesn't have a championship game, the games are broadcast too late in much of the country, etc.
Given the success of the SEC strategy- SEC team in the title game nearly every year, two SEC teams in BCS bowls every year, huge TV contracts- I'm doubtful that the SEC will be kicking out Vandy and Miss. St. and start playing a round robin schedule.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
