  • Since I know you all have been waiting for my sugar bowl analysis here it is ;)

    1. The sugar bowl is the best bowl game around for the atmosphere. Hardly anyone parks at the superdome they just walk on over from bourbon street. Its actually really cool to see 70+k fans walking 3/4 of mile to and from the game.

All the other bowls you have wait two hours in traffic just to leave the stadium. If Vegas put a stadium close to downtown or the strip you would have the same thing.

    2. Bourbon street smells like urine, vomit and alcohol. Combine that with hustlers barely legal and live sex shows and you get a pretty crazy place.

    3. With all the talk about Utah not being able to cover 6'4" julio jones the pundits forgot that bama corners 24 and 4 were both about 5'10" and Three Utah receiver are 6'4" or more. Freddie Brown absolutely abused #4 everytime they had one on one coverage it was good for 8 yards.

    4. Nick Saban is a pussy. Lets see at the end of the 3Q and in the 4th quarter he had 4th and 2 3 times. He was down 11 and he didnt go for it once. You'd think a team with "SEC" size could get two yards against a lowly MWC team.

    5. The gameplan by Ludwig was great. Bama's large nose tackle hardly played because utah was passing so much.

    6. Alabama fans were the easily the classiest fans I have ever encountered. They were so cordial it was amazing. I expected the complete opposite.

    7. The back judge was probably the worst referee I have ever seen. Here's a hint back judge perhaps you should look over to see if Utah is going to call a timeout before you throw the flag for delay of game. Additionally he called two bad pass interference calls on McCain

    8. Sean Smith is a pro corner plain and simple. Julio Jones looked like he had beaten Smith on post route only two see Smith make up two steps at the last second. He is a testament to good coaching. They moved him to corner two years ago (from RB) and he has become an absolute stud.

    9. I have been wondering (plus cougjunkie's post) what this will do for Utah's recruiting. Heimuli from Highland committed today. Thats a good start to what looks like a stellar recruiting class.

    10. For how tough it was to get to the game for Utah fans (flying into houston, Jackson MS etc...) there was still 15k at the game. There were a lot of empty seats at the superdome. If the superdome was only a 4 hour drive from Salt Lake There would have been more Utah Fans than Bama brought.

A back judge never watches the coach to see if he's going to call time out. His eyes are on the play clock and the play clock only. It is the job of the wing officials (Head Linesman and and Line Judge) to communicate with the coach and get the time out before the clock expires.

With that said if the wing official was slow to blow his whistle then he can conference with the referee and the back judge and explain the situation. In this circumstance the flag is usually waived off and the timeout granted.

Just FYI on the Mccain PIs, I know you probably couldnt see it at the game (in fact I am positive because Kyle was going nuts as well) but Mccain reached out and grabbed the receivers jersey twice on the same play, he had it completely stretched out trying to slow him down. The other call was bunk.

Sean Smith is very good, Julio Jones is also very good, if Julio had a qb he would have had 2 TDs.

Also I heard that BJ calls all the plays in the 2 minute offense, I think I heard this after the TCU game, if that is true then Ludwig may have had a nice game plan but BJ gets the credit for the execution and playcalling.

They shouldnt complain about this anyways, yes it was a quick whistle, but Utah scored a TD on the next play. On the pass to David Reed. Also if Utah did get that play off a linebacker was coming free it could have been disasterous.

both of the PIs were coming at us. so If he was grabbing from the back I couldnt see it.

Let me add that both of the times Julio could have scored, Mccain was on him. Mccain is awful.

The best bowl atmosphere is the one that smells like urine and vomit or the one that has great traffic alternatives?

I was hoping for more expounding on the actual game day atmosphere...the fans, the tailgates, the school bands, etc. You just described Bourbon Street, which is that way during any major N.O. event. and the convenience of walking to the Dome.

I figured your statement was mostly hyperbole (unless you have been to lots of different big bowl games) but I thought the two statements were funny, is all.

N.O. is fun and I love that city, btw.

I urinate daily and vomit occasionally, so I am not a total neophyte in these areas.

When I have been to N.O., I usually skip Bourbon. I find it to be lame. No good restaurants on that street and there are only so many hot tranny mess-ups I want to see in one evening. If you don't drink, what is the point?

But I love other areas of the Quarter. Some of the best food in the country around those parts, plus in the Garden District....restaurants like Upperline and Commander's Palace. Yowza.

This is true about the 2nd PI, which was a good call. As Moose Johnston said while laughing, "McCain knows the all about the little tricks."

As for any bad calls, I see no need to worry about them. The Utes won the game.

I actually think Sean Smith will end up playing Free Safety in the NFL because of his size. Either way he has a bright NFL future ahead of him and has played him self into a first selection. Do you ute fans think he will be back next year? Teams will also eat him up because of his ability to cover receivers.

I thought the PI calls on McCain were legit. McCain sucks and Ute fans should be happy he is gone. The Ute secondary will be better next year with RJ Stanford taking his spot.
