So, what are the chances that Boise State gets in? Basically it comes down to Virginia Tech or Boise State. I won't rule out the possibility that the Fiesta could pick Boise State ahead of TCU because the perception probably is that Boise travels better than TCU. TCU is the more interesting team to match up against Penn State, but Boise at least routinely sells out its games and they have a recent history of being in good bowl games.
But I still think the Fiesta is much more likely to pick TCU. If Alabama loses the SEC title game, that will leave the Sugar with the choice between Alabama vs. Boise or Alabama vs. and three loss V-Tech (a rematch from earlier). The Big 12, Pac 10, Big East (most likely) won't have more than one BCS-eligible team. That leaves Virginia Tech as the only remaining at large team from a BCS conference after the second Big 10 and SEC teams are picked. Would a three loss Virginia Tech team really be that much more attractive to the Sugar Bowl than Boise? I don't get the impression that Virginia Tech's fanbase is up there with the big boys as far as traveling to bowl games. True, Boise isn't there either but I still think an undefeated Boise team can pull more fans and viewers than a three loss Virginia Tech game.
Here are my predictions:
NT: Florida vs. Texas
Rose: Oregon vs. Ohio State
Orange: Georgia Tech vs. Cincy
Fiesta: Penn State vs. TCU
Sugar: Alabama vs. Boise State
BTW, don't the MWC and WAC have a BCS revenue sharing deal?
Also BTW as I mentioned in another thread, BYU right now is the only other at large eligible team outside of Virginia Tech and Boise State after the second Big 10 and SEC teams are picked. After suffering through the empty seats at the West Virginia vs. Oklahoma game, you'd have to wonder how much the Fiesta Bowl cares about making sure they have a sellout. BYU vs. Penn State produces a higher likelihood of a sellout than any other matchup. The controversy of a 2 loss BYU team getting in ahead of an undefeated Boise team would be too great, I don't think BYU is even on the Fiesta's radar.
