    There are lots of sociological studies that show that groups of people with (basically) homogenous ideas will tend to become more extreme in those beliefs. In other words, without a differing point-of-view, the entire group will shift to a more extreme position.

    BYU has beat Utah 3 of 4 years (although that lone Utah win goes a long way for me). They can have a little time to strut.

    Max's generalizations betray immaturity more than anything. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

        I agree with that. I deplore the incivility that has crept into the rivalry. It's as if the exposure that other rivalries have gotten in the media has caused the amount of hate and negativity that is acceptable in our own to rise over the years. Perhaps it has always been there, but it seems as though it has amplified since the onset of the internet and the domination of ESPN. I don't want our rivalry to be just like all the others. I think can be intense without being hateful and uncivil and that's what I find unfortunate about Max's comments last night. It essentially sanctions those behaviors and attitudes.

                I bet if you were to take 100 random fans from each side, poll them on their "hatred" of the other team, and get their ages as well, you would see some definite correlation between the level of hatred and age.

                    The whole reason I got on the board last night was to see your melt down. You have not disappointed, I love it. Considering you are the most mentally unstable person on this board I hope this does not put you over the top. Max Hall and his family may need to go in to Witness Protection. I am sure his tires have already been slashed.

                      CougJunkie isn't a young'un and he hates Utah quite a bit. Maybe as much hatred for Utah as Seattle has for BYU. For the most part though, I would agree with your comment.
