I'm sorry your serious, thoughtful, lyrical musings on the Rivalry were panned by the critics. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

One of the things I like about the BYU-Utah rivalry is that, on some level, it isn't just about marketing.
Sure, some Utah bank has tried to cash in on the rivalry, and both schools benefit, but on a deeper level the private, conservative religioius school versus the more liberal public, state-sponsored school refuses to be completely commodified.
I can watch pro soccer and pro hockey, but I'm not as committed to those, in part because they are mostly about marketing. Outside of Yankees versus Red Sox, which is all about Jews versus Catholics, and a few other legitimate pro rivalries, most of it is marketing BS. Its designed to stir you up so you'll put money in somebody's pocket.
I watch the game with a Ute friend of mine. We subject each other to some good natured smack and enjoy the experience.
James, if you read this, your commuter school for drunken, slacker Lamanites is about to be handed its ass! Helaman's army, and the Lord God Almighty that it represents, will roll forth and fill the earth! We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

If you were checking up on me, then you'd notice that I have said relatively little about BYU the last 3 or 4 weeks and almost nothing during this week.Originally posted by YOhio View PostPortlandUte, I just checked some of your posts on Ute fans. It made me realize that this thread was a satire. Well done!
That's all pretty rare for me leading up to "the game" and during football season.
I'll be the first to admit that I was as big a part of the problem as anyone. Well, not anyone. Cougjunkie is a bigger problem than I ever was. And he does it here on a supposedly more civil forum.
All you have to go on is the past and I recognize that. I have gotten pretty emotional in the past.
Like I said, I long for civility. I can't expect it from others, but I can turn over a new leaf and change myself.
BTW, it's not that I don't want any back and forth. I think the rivalry is fun. It should be fun. I have a couple of friends that are BYU fans. We respect and like each other. We joke a bit, but it never devolves into nastiness, name-calling or physical altercations. I'm fine with the rivalry. I'm not fine with the nastiness of it.

I disagree, Port. Your post of simliar vein was well received on CB.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI am not altogether surprised at the turn this entire thread has taken.
I guess this place really isn't as different as it prides itself on being.

What's wrong with how his post was received here? I really don't get it.Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostI disagree, Port. Your post of simliar vein was well received on CB.
He admittedly was part of the "problem," yet he's complaining about not receiving goodwill he has yet to earn. When called on it he starts pointing fingers at others and then declares that he has changed, even though a quick glance at UFN shows otherwise. On top of that he tries to collectively guilt trip CUF by declaring us CB 2.0 (where have we heard that before?).

Well . . . you called Port's entire thread a satire, SU dismissed Port's posts as "navel gazing," and junkie accused Port of being one of the most "vile and hateful" posters on the other boards. All in all, a pretty heavy-handed response to someone who, on the face of his post, seemed to be trying to express how he feels about the rivalry, in a straightforward, non-confrontational way. Maybe it was a departure from his prior approach, maybe it wasn't, I don't know. But fellas, come on!Originally posted by YOhio View PostWhat's wrong with how his post was received here? Just my observation. I may be all wet. And I am sure no one here will hesitate a nanosecond to tell me so.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

You are all wet. The very fact that we are having this silly converstation shows the lie in PU's constant refrain that this is nothing more than CB 2.0. Funny how we are never UFN 2.0.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostWell . . . you called Port's entire thread a satire, SU dismissed Port's posts as "navel gazing," and junkie accused Port of being one of the most "vile and hateful" posters on the other boards. PU had some nice thoughts. The imagery of attending games with his father was touching. But his history here and elsewhere will follow him. That takes time to change, if that is the intent.
Even then, I thought his post was received fairly well. Getting PAC, YO and SU to respond to one's thoughts is definitely A-list. Declare victory and move on.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I used "CB II" because of the numerous derogatory references that I see on this board to Cougarboard. There aren't as many to Utefans.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostYou are all wet. I'd like to file a motion to formally strike the "CB II" reference from this thread and change it to show "Utefans II." It's really 6 of 1 and a half dozen of the other.

Technically, this place would be Cougarboard Part 4, not Part 2. I am counting both Cougarguard and Brother_H8's website, byuofu, as an Elias of sorts for our Cougaruteforum.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI used "CB II" because of the numerous derogatory references that I see on this board to Cougarboard. Really the only people that reference CB anymore are those who come here after being suspended.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI used "CB II" because of the numerous derogatory references that I see on this board to Cougarboard. There aren't as many to Utefans.
