I agree. I think that it is viewed as a mutually beneficial decision. I don't think he is a huge loss but I don't think it is the program's finest hour either. There is a lot of frustration and I think both Jaimie and Bronco realize the good in a parting of the ways.

My guess is in a few years the next guy will be similarly treated as Ken Schmidt, Brian Mitchell and now Jaimie Hill.

The sad part is that I think he has the defense heading in a much better direction, but as I said I am pretty confident BYU can find somebody as good.

Hill is out of the running (was he ever really in the running to begin with?)

We need at least one black coach on the staff that relates to kids and can be a great recruiter. But Hill seems to have personality issues that stand in the way of him being that guy. As far as his ability as a D-coordinator, I'm not big on him but I'm not a hater. I'm not sure you can do much with the personnel we had at LB and in the secondary.

More wishful thinking than surety, at least for myself that is.

Wasn't Al Borges the Head Coach there several years ago. When I lived in Boise he was the OC for BSU, and I thought he left to become the Head Coach at Portland State.

He said last week that he had some interest in the PSU job, but decided against pursuing it any further after talking with the school's athletic director.

"I definitely have an interest [in becoming a head coach]," Hill said. "But it has to be the right place. For me, my interest is more in the FBS (Division I-A) instead of the FCS. And Portland State is the FCS, so that wasn't quite where I wanted to go."
Call me crazy, but I don't think Hill's next coaching job is going to be as a head coach at the D-1 level. I don't see BYU's defense as being good enough that others around the country start saying, "Hey, that defense is really strong. I bet that coordinator would make a great head coach."

Hill may have passed on his sole opportunity to be a head coach. He had connections with PSU already. If he wanted to be a D-1 head coach, he should have gone after the PSU job, proven himself at that level, and then parlayed that into a D-1 job.

In short, for better or worse, we may be stuck with Hill for a long time.

It also doesn't seem like he has the people skills for being a head coach, either in dealing with the fans or the players.

Those personality traits are completely overrated.

It is called "Little Man Syndrome" and he suffers from it big time.
