The biggest difference is that there are now 3 good conference programs instead of 1.5.
Is that attributable to BYU being stagnant while others are improving or BYU not improving as much as the other top teams?

It's those damn Utes. We have more talent and they are ranked higher. If TCU kills them and we beat them, the fans won't be so frustrated.

Oh and by the way, if we end up 9-3 we won't be ranked around 20 and the Utes will have beaten us. I guess you will still be leading the, "we shouldn't complain" crowd?

I could go off for days on that one however, I am going to stay quiet on this one for now.

I think that in comparison to the top teams nationally BYU is exactly where it was with Edwards. In comparison to conference competition the others have improved more, but they had a lot more room for improvement and going from shitty to good is easier than going from good to elite. I doubt BYU has what it takes to ever break into elite with any consistency. Perhaps one team a decade might be a legitimate top 10 team.

I think most BYU fans are just fine with 9-3 seasons. Albeit against a horrible MWC and average OOC teams. But I see SDSU and Wyoming improving.

I prefer just watching good college football. Love to watch the SEC and the energy and emotion of their fans, coaches and players.

Thought just came to me, what would happen on a typical Saturday afternoon at LES if the fans decided that football was no. 5 on their priority lists? I suppose the no. 5 priority of football at BYU irritates die-hard fans.

Agreed. And the majority of BYU fans are ok with that.

I think most BYU fans are pussies and upset that Utah is ranked higher and appears to be having a better year after the Utes had a better year last year. If BYU beats Utah this year much of the string pulling will subside, save the true dipshits, of which there is a vocal minority but they will be stoned for questioning Mendenhall then.

Me too. What I'm not ok with is getting destroyed by teams like FSU or TCU. I can handle losing to them but not getting killed.

If the Utes get two teams a decade to elite, BYU fans are most certainly not OK with it. Look at the stringpulling right now. BYU had a team that good in 2006 and didn't get over the hump. Then the Utes rolled in '08 and BYU fans are whining like the women of Srbrnica.

Let me ask if you think your expectations would change if the following occured.

The admin. went to Bronco and said, you know coach, go ahead and put all your effort into the football game. We will handle the young men's spiritual growth, firesides and their community service. Now we want you to be a good example and we want these young men to be great citizens, but you focus on football.

Secondly, we will tolerate some honor code problems occuring and making it out to the press. We aren't so worried about our image so much anymore with all the bad press we get on the gay issue, people nationally think honor code problems at BYU are the least of our concerns image wise.

If that happened would you up your expectations on what Bronco and BYU could do?

Right now Bronco and BYU have a lot more resources than Lavelle ever dreamed of having.

Resources, perhaps. But the poly-pipeline has been rerouted to Salt Lake and Seattle.

As a casual observer, it seems odd that the BYU coaching staff gets so worked up publicly about the fans. How hard is it to express your displeasure behind closed doors ?

Most coaches seem to parrot the 'we have the greatest fans in the world' line without second thought whether they believe it or not. Yet Bronco's integrity or irritation seem to limit his ability to simply state this phrase publicly.
