I think the fact that we stayed within a TD of Oregon on their home field is quite surprising in retrospect considering how they've completely dismantled other top 15 teams there this season. I'm not taking away a "poppinga" victory, by any means. However, I do think it is a credit to the coaching staff. I don't think Utah is any more talented than USC. Then again, maybe they are and I am guilty of buying into the BCS/ESPN/USC/Florida/Texas/ND/OSU hype.

As you may remember from Utefans.net, I think Meyer is the best coach in college football, and take stock in the fact he genuinely believes KW to be one of the very best coaches in the game today. I agree. We're incredibly fortunate to have him guiding Utah's program. He hasn't peaked -- not by a long shot.

Five 10 win seasons up on the hill and BYU fans are projecting?...I get it. All those decades of losing to the other 8 or so teams in the conference meant nothing, it was losing to BYU that mattered, right?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostThis is because BYU fans are all coming forth and saying utah will get creamed based on their own parochial experiences. This is typical of the BYU fanbase, by the way.
Then is losing to BYU why the Utes didn't win an outright conference championship for 50 years leading up to the Urban revival? Killer, admittedly, take a branch of the LaVelle tree, eliminate all the nonsense like missions, Honor Code, and firesides, and you tend to have the makings of a very good opr great coach. So what? When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Sometimes football programs have dry spells. BYU won its first outright conference champsionship in 1966. (I remember, although I was only a young kid.) That was after, what, 75 years of playing football?Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostFive 10 win seasons up on the hill and BYU fans are projecting?...I get it. Fortunately for the Utes, we all have to live in the present, and it does appear that the BYU's days of beating up on everyone in sight may well be over. In fact, they have been over since about 1990. I may be off by a year or two.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

I think BYU is going to beat up on people occasionally. It's just not going to be every year for 10 years straight like it was in the late 70's and 80's.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostSometimes football programs have dry spells. BYU will have a year here or there where they have a special team. Like 1996 or 1984. I would have thought that 2008 would have been that year since it sppears it's every 12 years. Maybe it skipped one iteration and we'll see it in 2020. Maybe sooner.

So nothing. Just a compliment to the U of U program. If I could convince BYU to go that way I would. Eliminate the Honor Code, firesides, missions etc. and fill the staff with Edwards coaching progeny and BYU starts winning National Championships again.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostKiller, admittedly, take a branch of the LaVelle tree, eliminate all the nonsense like missions, Honor Code, and firesides, and you tend to have the makings of a very good opr great coach. I have repeatedly given Lavelle Edwards a lot of credit. I think Whit has the perfect formula; he has graphed Lavelle DNA into a great secular university. I have great hopes also for Sarkisian at my adopted team.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostSo nothing. Just a compliment to the U of U program. If I could convince BYU to go that way I would. I think UW will become a Pac-10 power. I think there is a lot of evidence supporting the position that playing or coaching at BYU from '76-'96 (maybe longer either direction) was a great way to become an amazing coach.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostI have repeatedly given Lavelle Edwards a lot of credit. Hmmm... the edit seems to have worked, as I can see that you've corrected the spelling of Wynn's name.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostIl Pad, the new title only shows up on the index if the mods want it to.
