This debacle is all on the current coaching staff. Crowton's influence has long been removed.

The problem with the MWC, if our Champion doesn't go to a BCS game, then they are playing in Vegas. We need better bowl tie-ins and Thompson is not getting it done.
I am with you. If we had lost to Oklahoma and FSU but win the MWC big deal. I say that because if that happened it would mean TCU and Utah weren't so good. The value in the MWC championshop is because of how good Utah and TCU have been lately, not BYU.

This year will go down as a good year for me because we beat Oklahoma on a big stage.

You are correct. Crowton has no influence on how poorly Jaime Hill runs his defense.

This is a pretty silly statement. Crowton left a loaded cupboard and no BYU fans felt the need to talk about recovering from the Crowton years in 2006, 2007 or 2008. So now in Bronco's 5th year when we play emotionless, predictable football somehow we are recovering from Gary Crowton? The guy hasn't been in the BYU football offices since December of 2004! If he has that kind of hold over BYU still he is the most powerful LDS football coach ever to live, end of discussion.

Listening to Nate Miekle try to argue with Wrubell/kccoug on Saturday night that "true BYU fans" would want Utah to beat TCU so that BYU could still get a piece of the championship was laughable.

How did Miekle get a job? He is brutal.

Nope. Disappointing based on the number of returning starters on offense.

That's not totally true. You don't just start picking up recruits left and right after having so many miserable seasons. I'm not saying the coaching staff can't improve, but we aren't long removed from the Crowton years. Bronco has done a miraculous job getting this team to where it is today. If you would have told me in 2005 that we would have won this many games in four years I would have been doing back flips. The only reason what is going on isn't good enough is because Utah and BSU have been to the BCS. None of this was every going to be a short term fix. If you want a quality program that wins year in and year out, it takes time.

Hey I listened to Ben Criddle state emphatically in the post game on 1280 that BYU would win a national championship within 5 years. Hans and the other host were amused. Criddle kept pushing it. Said Bronco has a business plan and that it includes a national championship and that the business plan was formed with the help of well-known consultants, etc. Criddle said that every bit of his plan has been succesful to this point and that Bronco will succeed in getting a NC at BYU.

This just moments after BYU was dismantled at home for a second time this year.

I think it's this kind of thing that fans the fires of the BYU football fans that are disappointed with "mere" 10 win seasons.

BTW, if any of you are looking for some hilarious stuff, go listen to the archives of that post game. Before Criddle bore his testimony of Bronco, some lady called in and bore testimony of Bronco and said that she doesnt' mind these losses because Bronco was a man of god (paraphrased.)

If Crowton left such a loaded cupboard why couldn't he win? How many player transferred after Crowton left? Mendenhall had to reteach the players how to workout and train during the offseason. It's very rare that you walk into a program and start winning the way Bronco has done. TCU has been better than us the last couple of seasons. That doesn't mean BYU will always come up short.

How many players on the 2009 team were even recruited to BYU by Gary?

Does this business plan include recruiting athletes? If not, he better throw it out the door and start from scratch.

So what your saying is that players being recruited by Bronco did not look at the past couple years wins and losses? Think about it, in 2006, 2007 and 2008 Bronco had to recruit players that did not know what kind of program they would be walking into. Don't forget that most of these players were recruited in 2004-2005 and are now seniors after serving missions. Do you not realize how hard it is too get the top athletes when your program has been in the crapper for 4-5 years?

Growing up Mark Bigelow and his family were some of the biggest BYU fans I know. Mark dreamed of playing for BYU. When the basketball team went down the crapper it nearly pushed him to play for Utah instead. Cleveland was very lucky to get Bigelow to sign. Everyone thought he was crazy for signing with BYU. Mendenhall has had the same issues.
