Brian Logan and Brandon Bradley are both night and day better than Stanford and that is very hard for me to say. But they are and you are truly an idiot or have the thickest red goggles imaginable if you think differently. Also being 6'1 doesnt help when you are never around the ball.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostI'll take him over any of the BYU cornerbacks. At least he isn't 5'3"*Banned*

Serious question for Ute fans (MP funk only answer if you have taken off the red goggles).
It seems like Utah has an extraordinary amount of drops from the wide receivers. This has been a season long problem for them, most of the time when I see it happen the receivers do not catch the ball with their hands, they try to cradle it in to their body the two worst offenders are Jereme Brooks and Aiona Key. Do the Ute coaches teach this? I cant imagine they would but who knows, or maybe Cain does not throw a very catchable ball I know some QBs just dont, I guess they could also just have bad hands who knows. Any idea why they have so many drops?
(David Reed is not including in that group, granted he has already dropped one in this game, I think he has great hands and should be a first team all conference receiver)*Banned*

So if they are both night and day better than Stanford (who I agree isn't all that good), why is it that BYU's pass defense is so much worse than Utah's. You would think that if 2 bad corners were "night and day better" than the 2nd cornerback on a team that plays primarily man, that it would show in the stats.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostBrian Logan and Brandon Bradley are both night and day better than Stanford and that is very hard for me to say. Utah has the best safety in the conference. In fact they have the best safety tandem in the conference, they also have a good pass rush which covers for a lot of Stanfords mistakes. BYUs corners are not bad cover guys but they play in a horrible scheme. In fact Brian Logan leads the nation in pass breakups. He is not great but he is better than Stanford.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostSo if they are both night and day better than Stanford (who I agree isn't all that good), why is it that BYU's pass defense is so much worse than Utah's. I have heard how great of an athlete Stanford is for 2 years that is all well and good but it doesnt mean he is a great football player.*Banned*

Well, former BYU receiver Aaron Roderick is the receivers coach, if that answers your question.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostSerious question for Ute fans (MP funk only answer if you have taken off the red goggles).

Yes, every football fan understands that pass defense statistics reflect cornerback play, and cornerback play only.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostSo if they are both night and day better than Stanford (who I agree isn't all that good), why is it that BYU's pass defense is so much worse than Utah's. To answer your question about the receivers, I have no clue what the problems is with the drops. Isn't wasn't nearly as much of a problem last year, but it was the year before. I am wondering if it is a problem with Roderick's coaching. I remember him having pretty bad hands at BYU.
One thing that I'm very impressed wit hteh WRs this year is their blocking ability.
Also, Robert Johnson should be the frontrunner right now for MWC DPOY.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Of course it doesn't reflect cornerback play and cornerback play only, but you would think that if there was such a huge gap between Stanford and 2 bad CBs on another team that has a pretty bad pass defense, that it would be reflected somewhere in the stats.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostYes, every football fan understands that pass defense statistics reflect cornerback play, and cornerback play only.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression
