    Bronco is right.

He also struggles with the one thing he's yet learned how to do....which extends to the BYU admininstration....and that's the hostility towards the fanbase. BYU treats their fans as if you should be so privileged to be a fan of their teams. They don't have much in the way of gameday tradition, and are resistant (for the most part) in implementing ideas that would make it better.

Bronco has yet learned to take the critical step of embracing the fanbase. Yes..BYU has a large weeny fanbase...but as his job as the Face of the program, that is simply irrelevant, and where he fails miserably.

KWhit had similar problems his first couple years as the HC at Utah....he made a public statement ripping the fanbase after they lost on the road to UCLA after he was criticized for substituting Tommy Grady into the game....he was promptly picked 6 the other way.

Since then he's embraced the fanbase and learned to be more savvy with what he says and how he says it. He and LOTS of other coaches feel the same way Bronco does, but he's learned that in this regard discretion is the better part of valor.

Just my opinion...and Bronco has yet to figure this out.
Agreed. No fan base. No job, Bronco.

To net it out.....has Max improved since last year? If so. Shut up. If not, the fans have reason to criticize his decisions, now that he is a senior.

From my point of view, at times he is brilliant. At other times, like last year, he telegraphs his passes and tries to force the ball. So I say he's probably the same as last year. Leading the nation in INTs is not a good sign.

I think a part of this is that there is less of threat of violence for your stupid comments at BYU games because very few fans have been drinking, while at Bama many have imbibed much.

But they are just stupid and not nearly as vicious as the Bama fan base. Nor is there as much fit throwing when there is a loss. But Bama has a HUGE advantage in unity and school spirit.

Bronco should know better than to bite the hand that feeds him. If he is going to embrace the fireside portion of the fan base he needs to accept the rampant stupidity of some of the fan base.
Excellent post. Bronco is correct in his assessment, just wrong in saying it.

The fans who think Max hasn't improved and continues in his bad habits are stupid? I believe his comments were in response to a question specifically about Max, not whether he is kicking a FG on the 3 yard line or going for it on 4th down. His response was around the fans' perception of Max's performance THIS year. Again, leading the nation in picks is not a category you want to lead in.

Wasn't it Mickey Mantle or Babe Ruth that lead the majors in strike outs. Some big home run hitter did.

In your opinion, has Max improved since last year? That's the question.

So you think Max is on the same level in college football as Mickey and Babe were in MLB? Hadn't thought of that.

I don't know. I don't think about it and I don't care. I know he is the best QB we have, so it doesn't really matter whether he has improved or not does it.

I do know the guy led the team on a drive that culminated in a TD in one of the best 5 BYU games I have ever seen. I am really happy with Max Hall at QB.

But that was the context of the question asked of Bronco. I guess you could make a case either way. Improved or not improved and probably have the stats to back up your point of view. For Bronco to call those who say he hasn't improved, uneducated, not a good move. He needs to realize it comes with the territory at ANY school if players are not living up to what some fans believe are their potential. It's college sports. Deal with it.

We have gone back and forth enough over the years that you know how I feel about moving targets and 21 questions. I'm done. Carry on if you wish without me.

This whole topic keeps reminding me of the quote that 71 has posted on his CB profile:

Caller: Why did you go for the tie and not the win.
Lavell: The tie assured us the championship.
Caller: Well, I would have gone for the win.
Lavell: That's why I am the coach and you're calling in.

After BYU beat SDSU 13-0 on ESPN or ESPN2 in a driving rainstorm where BYU threw something like 12 times, an irate caller told LaVell in the postgame call-in show

I'd rather pass 70 times and lose than run 70 times and win.

I'm sure this was one of the very fans that Gordon Monson was referring to as being a long-time fan that spent lots of money and watched a lot of football that Bronco had no right to imply they might have some level of ignorance.

I could never understand why lavel did that show.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

You were expecting Bronco to say that criticism and education are "inversely proportional?"

That's asking a little much of a football coach, huh?

                                When you're right, you're right.

Alot of the questions made me crinch though. Even I could answer alot of them and I know nothing more about football then the average non football playing fan.
