Better teams win WAY more often in a one game scenario in basketball and football. Baseball is way too fluky of a sport to decide everything in one game. Everyone would be stunned if the Browns beat a team like the Patriots or the Texans. No one would be stunned if the Yankees lost a single game to the Red Sox.

This is a pathetic baseball game, this game will ensure we won't see a 1 game series again. What a terrible first game for the MLB in this "wild card" format.

Not saying i agree with the one-game playoff, but these teams had to win to get here. No one would be stunned if either team wins here so comparing this to Browns/Patriots or Yankees/Red Sox doesn't make sense.

Nice first inning in D.C. 25 pitches for Carp when Lynn went 3 innings on Monday is a little concerning, though.

5 2/3 scoreless for Carp, and he really didn't seem all that sharp today. He was missing up in the zone quite a bit, and the Nats just seemed off. Lots of fly ball outs. Still, an Edwin Jackson v. Carpenter match-up is one you have to win, and this one was never in doubt. I like Lohse in game 4 riding some momentum, with Waino there for game 5 if you need him. This is the most balanced Cardinals lineup I can remember in a long time. You're going to use a lot of pitches getting through Jay, Beltran, Holliday, Craig, Molina, and Freese, with five guys who can legitimately take you deep to all fields. Glue guys like Kozma and Descalso are often the improbable names that come up big in post-seasons: names like Eckstein (and his little legs), Craig Counsell, Tony Womack (ugh, he sucked as a Cardinal), and F'ing Steve Lombardozzi.

I can't think of a better time to have Salas pitch than with an 8-0 lead.

This team is definitely playing well at the right time again. This feels almost like 2006 and 2011 when they just started gelling at the end of the season and kept it going through the playoffs. I'm trying not to get my hopes up yet, but I like how this is going so far.

It's like Rocktober! Just hope the Cards don't sail through to the Series only to have to wait around and stagnate for a week and a half, lose all their momentum and get swept in the Series. Sorry, I'm still a little upset.
