Kenya's, where else, Dennis Kimetto set a world record in the marathon yesterday of 2.02.57 or 26 4:41 miles. Find a track and try to run one 70 second 400 meters, I bet very few on this board could do one yet this guy strung 105 of them together. Amazing

One of the hardest workouts I ever did in high school track was ten 400s at 65-70 pace with 60 seconds rest between each run. I puked twice. Yeah I was only a hurdler so endurance was never my thing but keeping that pace up for that long is not human.

I once assisted on the Las Vegas marathon for the elite runners. My job was to show them where their special bottles were. Jogging with them was fun, but to do it more than 200 m would not have been fun. I don't remember the exact time of the finisher but it was something akin to 2:09. Nothing crazy like 2:02. You should have seen the Russian woman, who first thought I was some crazy guy wanting to take her off course so she would lose.

It is an insane pace. I imagine he also had some faster and slower miles as well.

I read on the RW recap of the race, I think, that the 5k split starting at the 30k mark (that's 18.6 miles, Americans, or right about where most of us hit the wall) was 14:11. Unfreakingbelievable.

I love that 5:05 miles are called "plodding".

The winner (Kipsang?) was smooth for as fast as he was running.

So my son decided to do track for his senior year and settled on the throwing. Of course it's last minute, but does anyone know where I can get javelin boots. Nothing is coming up in searches.
