Once the Lakers knew that the were not going to catch SA they shut it down. They do this kind of thing all the time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Their last game is against Sacramento and they've got the tiebreaker against OKC so they're not going to sink to #4, but they need to lock up that #2 spot. The Lakers may never have been able to keep up with Chicago, but now they're also behind Miami in the East and they're tied with Boston (who has the tiebreaker here? I think that is the nicest thing that you have ever said about the Blazers. I agree though locking up the 2 is a big deal. While I'm not expecting the Blazers to advance, a lineup of Dre, Matthews, Wallace, LMA, and Camby is a hell of lot tougher than Paul, Belinelli, Ariza, Landry, and Okafur. Plus, the Blazers have better depth with Roy without knees and Batum off the bench. David Stern cannot be happy about these developments involving the Lakers. He was looking at either a LA v. Chicago, LA v. Miami of LA v. Boston (remote chance given the way Boston has played) in the Finals. I think Kobe vs. LeBron and Wade would be a ratings bonanza.
