Hunter has really been the glue of this team for the last 2 years. They are not the same when he is out of the lineup. Good start to the series.

Full disclosure: I have been a Red Sox fan since 1967, long before it became trendy. I've suffered through the last 42 years with them, the highs and the many lows. So I will be cheering for them here, not as a member of the so-called Red Sox Nation, but as an (almost) life-long fan. Be warned!

(I do think the Yankees - mainly the Yankees - and the Red Sox management exemplify a large part of what is wrong with Major League Baseball these days, most of which could be solved by a salary cap like the NBA and the NFL have. But the players' union and some powerful owners are too greedy to go that route.)

If you are a true Red Socks fan...and HONEST Red Socks fan....you will acknowledge that as recently as the mid 90s, Fenway would rarely sell out, even being the smallest stadium in the bigs. There has truly not been a more bandwagon franchise in all of sports in the past decade than the Boston Red Socks. I would even make an argument that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have done more to raise Red Sock awareness than anything the team has done. Before Ben and Matt became popular, there weren't many vocal celeb endorsements for the Socks. The team stunk and were mired in their 1918 slump. There had never been a glamour era for this team during our lifetime...unlike teams like the Knicks, which were good at point in our lives. Ben and Matt come along and bring their Southie homerism to the public consciousness (which is fine, btw) and all of a sudden everyone is wearing that annoying brand new ball cap.
