  • There's always next year: the 2013 MLB thread

Looks like the Marlins are trading Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck to the Blue Jays for Yunel Escobar, Henderson Alvarez, Adeiny Hechavarria, Justin Nicolino, and possibly Anthony Gose.

The Marlins payroll on Opening Day was $118 million. If they receive those five players from the Blue Jays, their payroll will be $16 million.

I can feel it. This is the year.

I know that lack of feeling. Especially now, after Buck was denied manager of the year.

So much for that effort. Miami can't be that bad of place for baseball. I attended a game at Landshark two years ago and the stadium sucked but the weather was beautiful. I still find it funny that Miami has two WS wins in the last 15 years and the Cubs have zero in the last 100.

For how poor the Cubs have been in the last 7 years, they spend a lot of money. If they took the Marlins route of trading their best players (smartly) for prospects, then spending to fill holes when those prospects bloom, the NL Central is a very winnable division. Maybe Epstein will be the one to take them in the right direction.

The Angels will pay Pujols and Hamilton a combined $110 million in 2016 and 2017.

A lot of pressure on them to win now.

the blue jays are all in for 2013

I was reading that the blue jays can compete $$$ wise with the yankees and red sox because their cable deal in canada (they have their own "yes" network along with 30 million canadians). They really should realign baseball.

Trying to out-Yankee the Yankees and Red Sox is insanity. Blue Jays are going to end up 4th in the division again, but spend a lot more money than usual to get there.

Red Sox get Stephen Drew. I was hoping the A's could hang on to him. However, 10 million is too much to invest into Drew.

Aw yes, the allure of another Drew. If Stephen gives us a memorable grand slam in the playoffs like his brother did, then I'm all in.
