Carlos Boozer will opt out. It is the only financial decision that makes any sense whatsoever.

For Carlos Boozer, he is an injury prone PF and another year where he misses 20-40 games due to injury is going to hurt his prospects. Playing on a 1 year contract is insane for a player like Boozer. He is certainly not going to get 12 million per year on the new deal, but it isn't out of the question for him to get a 4-5 year deal starting at 8-10 million per season. He would be stupid to pass up a 5 year 50 million contract to play out a 1 year 12 million dollar deal.

I think he's learning that he's more likely to get 5-years and 35 million if he opts out. Also, to a large extent, Boozer controls whether or not he plays. He has no problem being Mr. Durable when he doesn't have a long-term contract in place (see his two seasons in Cleveland--81 and 75 games). While Boozer would have loved nothing more than to walk into a max contract this offseason, his latest comments show that he realizes that he'll make a lot more if he plays out this contract and becomes a FA next year, when all those teams who miss out on the LeBron sweepstakes will have plenty of cash lying around.

5-years and 35 million seems really low even considering the current market. With that type of deal you are either looking at a contract starting at around 5 million for the first year and escalating, or a fixed rate contract.

It is a huge risk playing out a 1-year deal for Boozer. I do hope that you are right and he doesn't opt out. It will guarantee that Memo and Milsap are gone and that he will be gone after next year.

Yesterday on ESPN classic they showed Lakers vs Cavs from 2004. A couple of observations from that game. Bron Bron was young and skinny. Vaguely resembling the man he is now. Boozer was younger and skinnier. It made me wonder what that team would look like today had Boozer remained in Cleveland. They're still not any stronger defensively in the paint, but they'd definitely have a very solid 2nd banana to Bron Bron.

My buddy in SLC actually just called to tell me about it. He said it is heavily sarcastic, and includes the sound bited of the Boozer quotes about the economy and needing to provide for his family, and that it ends by saying something to the effect of "don't let the door hit you on the way out." Apparently he thought it was pretty funny, because he called specifically to tell me about it.

My impression of living in Utah amongst Jazz fans is the great majority of them turned on Boozer long ago.

NBA.com Jazz highlight reel of the 2008-2009 season. I especially liked watching Deron throw it down on Bynum and Gasol. He's pretty much the only reason I'm excited for Jazz basketball this season.

So we're a month away from the new season tipping off and the roster looks exactly the same, plus a couple rookies. This team was nowhere close to being good enough to compete in the West last year... is there any reason to think they'll do it in 2010?

Hey they signed Ronald You, Me and Dupree and it looks like Harp is going to hang it up. I do have excitement though as I willbe cheering for the Knicks to go 0-82. Then the jazz can break the curse of Derek character Fisher and be contendaz!!!

Good call... I'd forgotten about that Knicks pick. I do fear D'Antoni's influence is enough to make the Knicks respectable.
