  • Cubs buying up land near Wrigley:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/busine...,1526875.story

For those familiar, the propoerty is where the McDonalds is. I like what has been done to the streets around Fenway, and wouldn't mind something similar, though I wouldn't be surprised to see this propoerty become a parking deck.

Despite walking by it probably more than 100 times, I have never eaten at that McDonalds. Sadly, I have eaten at the Taco Bell across Addison St from it. If the Ricketts have any pity, they will buy it next and tear it down.

Street level view of McDs and Taco Bell.

I bought a hat at that sports world on my mission. That thing is beat, but I still wear it.

There used to be a pricey hot dog spot, I thought near that McD's, but I don't see it any more.

      • As a Reds fan, let me say that I am scared that the Cubs now have a competent GM that knows how to spend money and put a team together. Or does he? A lot of people can succeed in Boston with nearly a limitless amount of income.

        • Looks like the cubs are in rebuilding mode. They Trade Zambrano for prospects and are looking at trading Garza to the Tigers for their top prospects. They also dealt Marshall (the ultimate "if he could just reach his potential guy).

The recent trades of Sean Marshall and Andrew Cashner demonstrate that Theo Epstein is in a full rebuilding mode in his first season as Cubs president.

The Tigers have a handful of top-end prospects such as righthander Jacob Turner who would be of interest to the Cubs. It would be a heavy price for the Tigers to pay, but it would give the Tigers an imposing rotation topped by Justin Verlander and Garza.
I honestly would prefer a very young team that finishes fifth to the highly overpaid old team that finished fifth. Now please... someone be dumb enough to take soriano off our hands.

          • Trading Z and Garza doesn't bother me. We know exactly who Z is, and he isn't want he could/should be. I trust Epstein when it comes to evaluating young talent.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

Is it unmanly to admit that this commercial choked me up a bit?

I am surprised that I too got a emotional too. We have only lived in the Chicago area for less than 3 years, but the pent up emotion surrounding the Cubs is palpable. I am a Dodger fan first, but not a small part of me roots for the cubs as well. It would be amazing to live here during a Cubs world series run...

                        I hope it happens someday.

                        • And here we go. Cubs baseball is underway.

First pitch gives up a hit. A good sign.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

@ballinger: Interesting Sports Fact: when the Chicago Cubs start 1-0 or 0-1 they have gone on to not win a World Series for the past 103 years.

                              Sorry, couldn't resist!

Shockingly, the Cubs gave up a 1-0 lead in the 8th, and it is now 1-1 in the ninth. Let's go Cubs!
