Came up a bit short, but they well exceeded my expectations for the year. Feel really good about the pitching for next year and hoping we finally get to see a rotation anchored by Felix-Kuma-Paxton-Walker like we expected at the beginning of the year. With Elias throwing as well as he did he'll be a strong #5 at the back of the group. Pen should again be good, as most of the best arms are young and will be back. If the M's can add one more legit middle-of-the-order bat, I think they can take another step forward.

It was sad walking out of the park knowing the season was over, but I'm looking forward to some great October baseball (I'm all in on the Bucs and the Royals). It was a great year with an excitement at the park that hasn't been here for years. I made a personal best 16 games this year, and the M's went 11-5 in those games. Not bad considering they were basically just a .500 team at home. Looking forward to next year.
This has got to be priority #1 for the off season. Some of the younger guys look like they are finally coming around (Saunders, Ackley, Morrison, Seager) but they could definitely use one more middle of the order guy that can get on base and move runners over. With a season of healthy guys, I think there is a real chance for them to take a big step forward next season. Disappointed about the end of the season (crapping the bed against Houston was a real head scratcher) but glad to see fight in the team and looking forward to next season.

    • Kyle Seager gets 7 for 100. Not a bad deal for both sides.

SpaceGhost emailed me complaining about this. I don't think it's terrible -- at least in line with market.

Third straight offseason the M's have given out a contract at $100M or more.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Shit we gave Cano 10 and he was already 31-32. Felix got 7 and long-term deals for pitchers are inherently more risky. 7 years for Seags isn't terrible.

              • Hope you guys have enough money to still take on Justin Upton's 14.5 mil and trade Taijuan Walker to the Braves.

                  It's a disturbing trend. Glass half full... it's wasn't 13 years. :/

Be afraid, SG. Your son will be back off his mission and probably married by the time that deal expires; you'll have grandkids before Cano's off the books.

If they were willing to give up Walker the deal would already be done (they obviously were a couple years ago, but that was when Upton had several years remaining on his contract; one year decreases his value). At least that's my feeling, but maybe they cave the more free agents start to come off the market.

I'm expecting they'll sign Cruz and trade for Upton. If they give Cruz 7 then SG can be justifiably upset.

I have no idea how interested the Ms really are in Upton. They could be working that deal as we speak FWIW. But if I had my choice between Upton or Cruz, I take Justin. Cruz is old coming off a career year. Upton is young, coming off a decent year. If Upton is willing to extend with the Mariners, I like that trade for them.

I'm sure they're extremely interested and having talks right now. They've already traded for the guy once, and were going to deal Walker, Nick Franklin, Charlie Furbush and Stephen Prior. He nixed the deal, though. He was also a lot more valuable at the time -- looked like a star in the making and had around three years remaining on his deal. They inquired about him again a year later after that first failed attempt, but he still wasn't willing to waive for the Mariners. He's only recently dropped his trade restriction to the Mariners, and I have to think his value is a whole lot lower at this point, but we'll see.

#Mariners have had trade talks on multiple RH outfielders, including Matt Kemp, Yoenis Cespedes, and Justin Upton. They want to land one.

#RedSox have been interested in Hisashi Iwakuma before; unclear if #Mariners would part with him in a Yoenis Cespedes trade
The Kuma for Cespedes rumor keeps popping up.
