10 years 200 million for Pooholes is crazy. He is going to kill some team during the last five years of that contract.

I'm bummed to see Pujols leave St Louis, but if he was going to leave, Anaheim is the best-case scenario.

I have zero ill will towards him, and will always hold him in high regard. I'm also thankful the Cards didn't overpay for him (and 10 years/$200+ million is too much), so now Berkman can play at first and either Craig or a free agent can play in the outfield with Holliday and Jay.

I feel the exact same way. It sucks to see him go, but it's better they Cardinals didn't try to match that crazy contract. I'm pretty relieved actually. That could have really hurt the Cards down the road. They just don't have that kind of payroll to keep him on the roster in 5-6 years when he'll be broken down (I'm assuming).

You cannot criticize St Louis for letting Pujols walk. It is crazy enough to pay a 41 year old 25 million per year in the AL, where he can play DH, in the NL it would be suicide.

I completely agree and couldn't help but have RC's second sentence run through my head the past couple of days as I saw the Pujols banter. He'll be DH-ing in a few years and at least they'll still have some use for him. What's the O/U on moving to DH -- 5? I'd want to push on that one.

As a traditionalist, at least this doesn't do anything to push Stan the Man aside as the greatest Cardinal ever. And while I can't blame Pujols for taking a nice paycheck, at least he did bring 2 WS trophies to St. Louis while there.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

If I'm the Angels,I'm having him as a full time DH starting this season. Minimize the wear and tear on him to hopefully cut back on his regression on the back end of the contract.

I don't know about that, as he's still very good defensively.

But I could definitely see him DHing at least once a week this season, and increasing the frequency over the next 2-3 seasons.

I agree with BO here, along with Pujols' ego being able to dictate that he's still good enough to play defense for several more years. I think he'll take DH as a rest day occasionally and it will be at least 4 years before he moves into a perm role there.

                  Fielder signs with the Tigers.

Yeesh. Cabrera, Martinez, and now Fielder.

Wow... due to a post from PAC about him remembering his dad taking him out of school to watch the giants I decided I would start the same tradition with my family. So I got us a ticket package for christmas and will be taking the kids one by one to the tiger games.

Thought I read that Martinez is out for the year with a torn ACL.
