Official Shaq Memory Thread

Big Diesel is retired. I had a love/hate relationship with Shaq-Fu. Loved him in Orlando; hated him in LA; was a big fan of Miami Shaq and Shaqtus, but not such a fan of the Big Shamroq.

Best memory is of his rookie year. He took down the basketball hoops twice (completely breaking the support systems), including once in a game against the Suns.

My favorite memory of Shaq is yet to come....his crawling back to the Lakers and Dr. buss to beg forgiveness so he can get his number up on the Wall.

Before the titles, I loved his "I've won at every level but college and pro" comment.

No love or hate for his stint as a Cav? Some critic you are.

Shaq is the greatest center of all time, and it's not close, IMO. If he had ever learned how to shoot free throws, it wouldn't even be a debatable issue.

that is interesting to you because the Jazz have never won a title. The Lakers have won a load of titles so yeah, that isnt a special memory.

Ummm.......I beg to differ. He might be only the 3rd best center to play for the Lakers. He's the greatest of this era and it isn't close. He was not better than Wilt. Kareem was probably better also.

Rich Bucher put not only Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Hakeem over Shaq but also Moses Malone.

I guess that why his job is predicated on making up rumors and not talent evaluation.

2000 40 points and 24 rebounds in game 2 against the Pacers





2001 28 points 20 rebounds 9 assists 8 blocks game 2 against the Sixers



2002 Finals MVP averaging 36 and 12

There's no doubt that Shaq possessed the ability to erase any debate on the issue and didn't do it. That notwithstanding, I still think he's the greatest center of all time.

Kareem definitely has him topped in the movie department, though:

Hakeem was better too. You could even put in an argument for Russell. Wilt and Kareem were both better than Shaq.

Reminds me of other memories: shaq putting off surgery all summer until right before the season because "he was hurt on company time."

Shaq yelling at the team owner during a pre-season game, demanding more money. Then the team owner choses someone else instead and wins 2 more rings.

Shaq burning bridges with almost every team that he played for. And while we are at it, Shaq playing for 6 teams during his career. Always the sign of greatness when you bounce around because you are a hassle to deal with.

Shaq was great. He could have been the greatest but he was lazy.

While we do have 16 memories to draw from, 3 of those 16 were super fun and I will always love Shaq for that!
