We have a pick from GS that was owed to NJ. It is protected, and without checking I'm pretty sure the protection is top 7 -- so GS will be the team to keep an eye on next year.

And, as a point of clarification since I got this wrong earlier in the year, protection is done after the lottery is ordered. So if GS finishes with the 8th worst record but then on lotto night jumps somehwere into picks 1-7, they keep the pick.

lets hope we get it. If they dont go above the protection, in a few years it turns into 2 2nd rounders. What an awful stipulation.

If I remember right, it is protected for the next 2 years at #7 and then in 2014 draft, it is top 6 protected. If none of that happens, Utah gets 2 second round picks. Yeah, lets hope that Golden State finishes in that 8-10 range next year because that will be a solid pick for the Jazz.

Barring any big injuries on their team I think the pick will definitely come over to Utah next year. Utah, Houston, Phoenix all finished out of the playoffs last year but ahead of GS, and I think each of those three teams will probably still be better than the Warriors. But GS should improve a little themselves, depending on what they get by trading Ellis, so they should stay ahead of most of the teams that were behind them last year too.

So I think Utah gets their pick, and that it will be around 10-12.

          • USA vs Lithuania right now at FIBA worlds U-19. USA won 2 years ago with G Hayward on the team.

Right now, Lithuania is up by 30 with Valanciunas leading the way. It doesn't look like many future high draft picks are on team USA.

            • I guess it might be a little early for the 2012 NBA draft thread...

RT @WojYahooNBA: An NBA scout gushing over Harrison Barnes battling KDurant in Chicago last night. "Top pick in the next draft -- by far."
Barnes is attending the Chris Paul camp for the 2nd year in a row. It is a camp tailored to point guards but Barnes said he wanted to go to improve his ball handling and to be able to compete against to perimeter players. Kendall Marshall, the UNC PG who is also at the camp, was asked which of his UNC teammates have improved the most since the season ended and his answer was, "Harrison. Definitely Harrison. Henson has put on some weight and is hitting a 10 foot jumper, but Barnes looks really good."

                  • There was an interesting discussion on the 2012 draft when I was driving home yesterday. They were talking about how you manage the draft if there is no season, which I'd put at about a 50/50 proposition right now.

Chad Ford talked about it in a chat and mentioned 2 options: 1) multiple accuscore simulations of the season and use that to set the lottery and the draft order; and, 2) give everyone an equal chance at the lottery and set the order 1-30 by lottery.

I think option 2 is a terrible option and shouldn't even be considered. I actually think option 1 is a really good option. I was surprised when the radio host was saying it was a terrible idea.

I think both options are terrible. What kind of record would Utah's 2003 cast have been simulated to produce? Probably nothing close to the 41-41 season they ended up having.

I doubt you are going to find an option that doesn't have problems. I'm not sure of an option better than a simulation. I guess the only other default is to go off the previous seasons record, but that ignores completely the previous years draft and potential improvements from that draft.

Despite the flaws, I think that would be preferable to a computerized season.

                          • Jimmer Fredette: 32.0 mpg, 17.0 ppg, 3.7 apg, 2.5 rpg
The leading projected rookie scorer is the No. 10 pick, Fredette. Because he carried such a heavy load at BYU, Fredette's projection doesn't quite match the role he will likely play for the Kings. Expect Fredette to use less than the 27.3 percent of Sacramento's plays his projection calls for, while at the same time shooting much better from the field than his projections (39.7 percent on 2s, 33.6 percent on 3s). Entering the NBA, Stephen Curry had similar projections but ended up shooting 43.7 percent from long distance. As a likely starter for a fast-paced team, Fredette has a chance to put up big enough numbers and win Rookie of the Year.

I wonder what we would have given up to go from Burks to Jimmer.

If we could have moved up to grab knight, that would have been great. However det obviously stayed put because knight was still there. If it had played out differently and knight was gone so det decides to deal, I wouldn't have been interested in trading up to that spot just to nab jimmer.
