      Battle for the Bottom.

I think they’re the only two teams to not reach 30 points on the season yet.

A few fun facts before that game.

Between the 2 teams, they had a total of 49 points. For some context, 15 teams in the NHL have 49 or more points. After the game, since there were 3 points given out, the teams now have a combined 52 points. There are still 10 teams out there that have a greater amount of points than the teams combined.

Between the 2 teams, they have a -154 goal differential. The Sharks are doing more of the heavy lifting there with a -93 goal differential, but Blackhawks -61 is still really bad. Again, for some context here if you add up all the teams with a negative goal differential (w/out including the Sharks/Blackhawks) it is a -205. The next worst goal differential is the Ducks as -37.

How long is Bedard supposed to be out? Was the injury season ending?
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Bedard not playing in the All Star game. Still at least 6-weeks from returning.

The San Jose Sharks (28) on a blistering 2-game win streak and now only 2 points behind the Blackhawks (30). Both teams have 9 RWs, so that isn't currently playing a factor if they are tied. Ducks are sitting at 31 points.

Worst record is absolutely in play. I guess worst case scenario the Blackhawks drop to 3rd worse, but I think the Ducks aren't nearly as bad as the Blackhawks or Sharks.

Even though Bedard hasn't played in nearly a month, he still leads all rookies in goals scored.

15 goals in 39 games. Rossi has 13 goals in 49 games.

He is still leading all rookies in assists.

Faber and Rossi at 29 points and 28 points to Bedard's 33 points. Unlike Bedard, Faber and Rossi actually have decent talent surrounding them.

Really interesting article on what would have happened if the Blackhawks had not torn down the roster for a rebuild.
In this age of multiversal storytelling, it’s hard not to wonder what an alternate timeline might look like for the Blackhawks.

Basically, they would still suck but not have Bedard on the roster.

It is hard to describe how bad this team is without Bedard.

I think the worst record is all but guaranteed.

Sharks win!!! 32 points to Blackhawks 30 points. Same number of games played. It was also a regulation win, so Sharks now have 10 regulation wins and the Blackhawks have 9.

Sharks have another opportunity to get some points before the all-star break against the Ducks.

The only thing that will spoil the worst record for this team is if they get a few wins when Bedard comes back.

First game back, Bedard with an assist.

1 goal and 1 assist. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks won.

Barring another injury, I think Bedard still wins the Calder.

Bedard is good. In his 3 games back, 2 goals and 4 assists.

Wild end to the game. The fans gave Kane a standing ovation for the game winner.

Kane spared us a getting 2 points, so he is still doing good things for the Blackhawks.

Bedard follows through on a hit on Kane, which was funny to see. Also the play leading up to the hit was an incredible move by Bedard. Too bad he couldn't get the goal.

                              Kane on Bedard

"He’s been amazing," Kane said. "He’s been great. We talk about the fans and the city and how it’s such a great sports town, he’s in a great spot for that. I think the fans deserve another long run of a great hockey player and hopefully great teams behind him. But I think it’s a great way to kind of start the rebuild and to start with a player like that definitely accelerates it a little bit.

"He’s been special, I’m sure you guys see covering him every night. He’s worth the price of admission. He does special things. He’s going to be a great player for a long time."

Also, really fun to see Ed Belfour and Jeremy Roenick in Blackhawk jerseys again.

Dollar Bill wasted what could have been a great era of hockey in Chicago.
