It's time to put the 09-10 season to bed and get ready for the 10-11 season.

The CG/CUF league is unofficially heading into its 5th season. It has seen a lot of change while I've been commish, but the product remains solid. Here's a little historical view of this year's 12 team league and where they stack up.

    DNF (joined 2006) 43 - 11. 1 Championship (2006)
    Cougjunkie (joined 2006) 35 - 19. 2 Championships (2008, 2009)
    UtahDan (joined 2006) 30-24
    Bluegoose (joined 2006) 26-28
    MpFunk (joined 2007) 26-14. 1 Championship (2007)
    MRD (2006, 2009) 9-19
    Rickomatic (joined 2008) 11-15
    Sizzle (2008) 6-7
    Surfah (joined 2009) 8-5
    Hot Lunch (joined 2009) 6-7
    BoylenOver (joined 2009) 5-8
    CJF (joined 2009) 2-11

Some other notables to play in the past include but are not limited to: YOhio, Fusnik, MikeWaters, Scottie, EwtH8ter, and I'm sure many others.

This year there was some talk about doing an auction league. I'm not sure how successful both leagues would be if each owner had two teams going against the same guys. One wonders if you would eventually just focus on the team you have that is playing well and quit on the other one (which, sadly has happened in the past).

I'm sure there are enough people that want to play that another league could be formed as well.

If there is still some interest in an auction league. Let's get a dialogue going in this thread and figure out if it is a viable option. Alternatvely, we could also look into starting a keeper league from this season moving forward.

    3 weeks until the draft!

    Now down to brass tax.

The clear cut top 4 seem to be Chris Johnson, AP, MJD, and Ray Rice. After that you're choosing from Gore, Michael Turner, Andre Johnson, and potentially Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers.

I've already said this to you, but I think that Turner is a huge gamble as a top ten pick. I have had too many past experiences thinking "LT was off last year, but this year he should be better." Done the same with Shaun Alexander. He wasn't a little off last year, he was a lot off. Only 28th in points. Now he was injured part of that time so you could argue that if healthy he could jump into the top 15, but his per game numbers were just way way off and I just don't see what has happened in Atlanta that would make me think things will be different this year. Roddy White was off last year too.

I won't pick Turner until (obviously) Johnson, Peterson, Jones-Drew, Gore, (and less obviously) Mendenhall, Williams, Jackson, Grant and Benson are off the board.

Turner had the curse of the 370 last year. The season prior he had more that 370 carries/touches and that has seemed to be an indicator that a guy won't perform as well. I think Chris Johnson went over this number last year, and if so, it'll be interesting to see how he performs.

As for Turner, I think he's a late first rounder. He's a guy that has some upside going into this season simply because he underperformed last year. If you are sitting a 6 and CJ, AP, MJD, Rice and Gore are all gone and you are deciding between Turner and say, Andre Johnson...then I think Andre is the safer pick.

I'd take a top 3 QB over a bottom top 10 RB any day.

I agree. If in doubt, I will take the number one WR or QB rather than a RB that may not turn out to be top 25. I think that you HAVE to get value at one and two as you say in your blog. For example last year I took LT with the number four pick and only had a competitive team because I lucked out with Benson in the 8th round. RBs are such a crap shoot year to year. For grins, here are the top 10 RB's taken in our draft, in order, then the top ten in order of point finish:

              Draft

              1. Adrian Peterson
              2. Michael Turner
              3. Maurice Jones-Drew
              4. LaDainian Tomlinson
              5. DeAngelo Williams
              6. Matt Forte
              7. Brian Westbrook
              8. Steven Jackson
              9. Brandon Jacobs
              10. Frank Gore

Points in 2009 with the round we took them in and pick number:

              1. Chris Johnson (1, 12th pick)
              2. Maurice Jones-Drew (1, 3rd pick)
              3. Adrian Peterson (1, 1st pick)
              4. Ray Rice (6, 8th pick)
              5. Frank Gore (1, 11th pick)
              6. Thomas Jones (4, 6th pick)
              7. Jamaal Charles (undrafted)
              8. Ricky Williams (12th, 3rd pick)
              9. Joseph Addai (3, 1st pick)
              10. Ryan Grant (3, 9th pick)

So only three of our top picks finished in the top ten. Three more were top twenty for a total of 6. So based on last year your odds are 30% of getting a productive (top 20) back among the top ten.

I was hoping that who ended up top ten would bear out my theory that you are much more likely to get a sleeper from a team that appears to be a playoff contender but if you look at that top ten there it is half and half.

Well a couple of those guys caught everyone by surprise. Ricky Williams and Jamaal Charles in particular.

and others did in poor performance: Forte, Turner, Slaton.

I think this year we're going to have some QBs and WRs put up RB like points. I don't think Chris Johnson will come close to having the same year he did. One, because that was such an unbelievable season and two, their schedule this year is the league's toughest. I think MJD also sees a decline. The Jags also have a tough schedule. I think AP's year will depend much upon who is handing him the ball so that's up in the air.

Am I to understand then that Victorious Secret is bringing in Brees, Manning, and Rodgers for workouts?

Since I am picking second to last, probably.

Imagine how I feel about getting Ray Rice in the 6th round last year. Steal of the draft. I remember in chat DNF mentioning that he had a good feeling about Rice and that he had taken him in some other leagues. I hadn't even heard of him and took him on a hunch from my BIL, who follows this stuff as much as DNF does.
