I guess you take the good with the bad. I also saw a stat that said he had more 20+ yard passes in the 3 games than Smith has had all year.Originally posted by UteStar View PostThe San Francisco coaching staff. And over the past 2 seasons, every quarterback has turned it over more than Smith. I don't think anyone thinks that Kaep will do better in the turnover department than Smith.
Everyone (SF media as well as coaching staff) is saying that if Kaep can keep his turnovers down to close to what Smith is, they should go with Kaep because he can be more 'explosive' offensively. Also, Kaep also had very good numbers, but around a 2.5/3 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio in college. He will have turnovers, but he needs to show that he can move the ball well. So far in the last 3 games, he has been Very good in 1 game and Average in 2 others.
I'm interested to see if Harbaugh acts like Bronco and sticks to his guns. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

The 49ers are still sitting there at the #2 seed even after that terrible loss yesterday. Also, they have this strange win-win-loss/tie pattern this season. If the pattern holds, they'll beat Miami and New England, then lose to Seattle on the road and finish with a win against Arizona. That's 11-4-1. That may still be good enough for the #2. New York will lose another game. Chicago and Green Bay play each other so the loser will have at least 5 losses, and the other one just has to lose one more game.
The Rams have a good pass rush. The Giants have a good pass rush. The Vikings have a decent pass rush. I see a pattern here.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

ESPN insider had a quote about his QBR in the last game that acknowledged some fudged numbers to get to whatever he was credited with (like not crediting him with a fumble etc...)Originally posted by BGRTHNUMEGO View PostKapernick posted a QBR of 70+ in 3 straight starts.
Alex Smith has never done that in the last 5 seasons."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

The Niners have a couple brutal games the next couple weeks -- at New England and at Seattle. Apparently Tom Brady hasn't lost a home game in December since 2002. Sheesh. As much as I'd like to count on that two wins then a loss or tie trend, I just don't know what's going to happen against the Pats and I think the Niners will probably lose that one. The Pats defense has improved substantially since last season.
On the other hand, the Pats' offense reminds me a really, really good BYU 1980s - early 90s offense. Technically very sound with an excellent QB, good o-line and not much athleticism at WR and RB. On the other side, the Niners' defense is loaded with athleticism at LB. Aldon Smith, Bowman, Willis and Brooks are far and away the best LB corps in the NFL. They're going to be able to keep up with the dink and dunk stuff the Pats live off. Then Goldson and Whitner punish anyone that goes down the middle. The Niners' defense doesn't resemble Houston's, it resembles Baltimore's before all the injuries -- TSuggs, Ray Lewis rushing the passer and patrolling the short stuff and Ed Reed head hunting in the middle.
But supposing that the Niners do lose this game, they then fall to the #3 seed in the NFC if Green Bay wins. Green Bay's remaining schedule is @Chicago, Tennessee and @ Minnesota. The most losable game is that last one, but I can just as well see them winning out.
With Atlanta being an incredibly shitty #1 seed in the NFC, I think there are two NFC seeds that will be sitting in the catbird seat -- #2 and #5. I think the Redskins are going to win the NFC East and lock down that #4 seed, I also think a strong #5 seed can easily beat them. The Redskins most challenging game left is against Cleveland (who's actually playing well), so I think they're going to win out. The Giants have two road games the next two weeks against Atlanta and Baltimore. Atlanta's shittiness notwithstanding, I think the Giants are losing one of those two games. A tie between the Giants and 'Skins=the Skins winning the division.
The #3 seed would suck for the Niners because that would mean Green Bay locked up the #2 seed. I still think Lambeau is a tough place to play in January, no thanks. On top of that, I think the Giants are getting that #6 seed. So they'd start out the playoffs with a game against the Giants and even if they won that they'd have to go to Lambeau to play a fresh Packers team -- no thanks.
The #5 seed would mean traveling to Washington to play an eminently beatable Redskins team and then traveling to play Atlanta (unless the Giants beat the Seahawks in Seattle -- with Seattle being the #3 seed in this scenario, but I actually think Seattle would beat them, of course the Packers may lose one more game and end up as the #3 seed with Seattle being the #2).
The best seed is that #2 seed. The Packers may lose one or win out, I have no idea. I don't think the Niners are beating both New England and Seattle on the road the next two weeks. I also don't think they're losing both games. That Arizona game will be a layup in the last week. The interesting thing to me, is the Niners may know whether they have a chance at that #2 seed right around the beginning of that Arizona game -- Green Bay will have already played its last game that morning. If the Niners are sitting there at 10-4-1 having beaten New England but lost at Seattle, Seattle is sitting there at 10-5 (and just playing St. Louis in Seattle), and Green Bay has locked up the #2 seed at 12-4, do the Niners just take a big dump in the middle of the field and opt for the #5 spot instead of that terrible #3 seed?Part of it is based on academic grounds. People on my shit list:
1. David Akers
2. Ted Ginn
3. Vic Fangio- at least from the mid 3rd to mid 4th. The Patriots can easily score 28 points in about a half. They did it last Monday night.
4. Trent Baalke - but only because of his shitty 2012 draft. He more than makes up for it with his 2010 and 2011 drafts.Part of it is based on academic grounds. People not on my shit list:
1. Michael Crabtree
2. The Colin Kaepernick that played in the first two and a half quarters and the last half of the fourth.
3. Frank Gore
4. Ray McDonald
5. Andy Lee
Also, I think splitting Danny Woodhead out wide on every other play was done for one reason only -- to take Navarro Bowman out of the play because Bowman was always going down there to cover him. Belichick knew that Bowman is a beast both against the run and in coverage. It was an interesting move.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Except he stunk it up when he was rotated into the regular offense, he doesn't know it well enough yet. But I do agree that LMJ is a huge upgrade on special teams, I really hope he can return punts because Ted Ginn should be waived tomorrow, at least I hope.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostLMJ should be there.
