  • Lakers v. Celtics - 2010 NBA Finals

The official thread for predictions, discussion, analysis, etc. I'd almost forgotten the NBA season hadn't ended, what with the long delay and all, but the Finals are upon us.

Two years ago LA didn't have anyone to guard Pierce. While it seemed that may not be an issue when Pierce suffered a near career ending injury in the first half of game one, he somehow managed to drag himself off his death bed and play pretty well for the remainder of the Finals. This year, Artest gets a chance to do exactly what he was brought in to do--guard Pierce (or Melo, or LBJ) in the playoffs. If Artest can get in Pierce's head a bit, make him work a bit harder for his shots, and force him to take more shots to get his points, I like LA in the series. Otherwise, I like Boston.

I think Artest gets the job done. LA in 6.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I think Artest makes the Lakers worse and Kobe can't possibly keep up his amazing playoff run, can he? After all, he no longer has the luxury of playing against the stout defenses of Utah and Phoenix.

With Bynum continuing to struggle, Boston in 6.

Garnett is no longer up to the task. He disappeared in the Orlando series. Garnett will only continue to tarnish his legacy by bumping his gums and playing dirty. Pau gets his redemption. Perkins is one f bomb away from sitting for a game. Artest will wrangle in Pierce. Bynum gives the Lakers more than he did in '08 just by being on the floor. Big Baby will cry. Sheed will go MIA. Kobe will force Rondo to shoot from outside and give the ic's fits on the offensive end. He will win his second NBA Finals MVP.

      Lakers in 5.

Perkins will get a T and be suspended for one of the games in Boston. The Lakers return home up 3-1 and finish of the C's who have "never lost a series if you factor in x, y, and z" according to doc rivers.

Garnett gets tossed from one game.
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Game 5 is in Boston. The Finals has a 2-3-2 format.

Ah dammit you're right. Well, the Lakers will celebrate in Boston then. That'll be wicked-awesome for them and their fans, of which I am not one.

              I predict hate.

That rings will continue to be an argument of convenience.

That getting stabbed will continue to be viewed as less harsh than being booed.

And that the ghosts of Len Bias and Reggie Lewis will rise up and possess KG, once again intimidating Pau until he tucks his goat tail between his legs and runs to Rudy, Sergio, Jose, Juan Carlos, and Ricky for soft hugs, warm tea, and tall skinny jeans.

Lastly, I predict I will look beyond the scowls, idiocy, and ugliness of Perkins, thankful that he brought Keena Young to BYU.

Probably the only disgraceful thing Coach Cal ever did that hasn't bothered me.

My prediction: if I watch one minute of the finals, it will be by accident.

Good prediction. Everything falls the Lakers way and nothing falls Boston's way.

Who do the Lakers have that can guard Rondo?

Apparently Kobe (according to Surfuh). Which puts Fisher on Allen. Fisher sucks, and that fact will once again shine through in this series.

Following Surfah's model, Allen will (somehow) disappear along with the rest of the Boston players. Lakers in 4. Make that 3. The mercy rule will be resurrected.

I think Kobe should guard Rondo. Much better than tiring himself out running around screens chasing Allen. JaX has said it will be by committee with Farmar, Brown, Fisher, and Kobe. Kobe can sag off Rondo and make him shoot for most of the game. If it's close in crunch time I expect Kobe to rotate back to Allen since Rondo won't try and do anything because he's such a liability at the line.

I expect Allen to have a decent series. He's been shooting well this post season.
