I am not a huge Grossman fan, but he actually looked pretty good last year. I think if they re-sign him there will be some competition, unless what we are hearing about them wanting to see what they have in Beck is 100% true.Originally posted by SoCalCoug View PostComment

I think you're right about there being some sort of competition; the team benefits when guys have to try their hardest to earn and keep a spot. This definintely isn't a case of an expensive QB who has to play because the money is too much to sit him. Some things seem to be in Beck's favor so far, like coaches' public comments and initial first-team reps. If play is equal, those things can give an edge. Yes, Bronco had a lasting impression on him. However, as I watched that, I couldn't help but think that his Mormonism really shined through, at least to someone versed in the cultural codes that have shaped modern Mormons. It would be interesting to undertake a study of language, both spoken and body to try and identify markers that are specific to a given subculture. I hope Beck doesn't think about the picks too much.Also of note in the 11-on-11 drills is that Beck handles the pressure of a blitz well, and is very active in the pocket. He started out very well, syncing with Hankerson and Paul on a couple big receptions.
