Am I crazy? This is worse than farcical. This is worse than the "free speech zone" trend on college campuses. WHO IS BUYING THIS HORSE SHIT?

I'm not sure if anyone, except 80K and Dr. Hill, can say why the basketball games were cancelled. It's hard to believe that it was really because the games have become dangerous. I have enjoyed making fun of them for their short-sighted decision, but I think that all games, in all sports, between BYU and Utah should be cancelled. I'm too young to remember how the rivalry was in the 80's. In the 90's it seemed like the rivalry was heated, but not unreasonable. In the 00's it seemed to get more nasty. Now the rivalry seems toxic.
Most of Utah's fanbase is composed of good, normal people (regardless of religion). But Utah sports has always been a uniting event for non-LDS and former LDS people in Utah who have harsh feelings towards the LDS church. Over the past 15 years this element has grown more bitter and hateful towards the church, and BYU sports is an outlet for their animosity. Other rivalries around the United States are heated, but I can't think of any other rivalry that has a religious element like the BYU-Utah rivalry. I'm sure that SeattleUte can speak at length about how most wars and stains on history are because of religion. Other schools dislike BYU for religious reasons, but none compare with Utah. The only sports rivalry that might compare is Celtic-Rangers in Scotland. I think that is a Catholic-Protestant thing.
Anyway, I'm in favor of the rivalry going away permanently. I think that it would be healthy for the state. And if we can blame it on 80K and Utah, even better.Last edited by Bigfoot is Cain; 03-25-2016, 12:55 PM.

BiC, what experience do you have with other longstanding college rivalries in the USA? Just interested in your frame of reference. As someone who grew up outside of Utah and only lived there for college and a few years following, the BYU/Utah rivalry never seemed out of control to me.
