"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

      • Just for fun this morning I looked up the replay of both the Henderson punch and the Emery punch. Interesting the way each one was handled. In the Henderson event, while the crowd was extremely riled up, it seemed like everyone took it in stride. The broadcaster called Henderson "a freshman doing freshman things" and made cracks about fight night and such. The refs were smiling on the court, and it just seemed like not really a big deal other than everyone knowing Henderson was going to be kicked out, and again, the crowd was really into it.

In the Emery event, the Huntsman Center crew kept showing the replay over and over again and the broadcasters seemed to react much more seriously. Interesting that you had about the exact same circumstances but a totally different feel.

Wait. A Utah player threw a punch? That doesn't fit the narrative at all.

Yes indeed. Afterwards, both Emery and Rose brushed it off as no big deal.

If only they hadn't minimized it back then...so much pain and unsafeness could have been avoided.

A few here are trying to explain why Utah did this and what it means in an honest way and because it doesn't fit the narrative for the rest of you ("Utah is chicken; C/K'r pussies"), the messenger gets attacked. The fact is, this was a calculated move intended to enhance the Utah basketball business, and Utah felt it could and should do this because the program has reached a new level such that it has more to lose than to gain from playing BYU. No matter how much any of you bleat, the fact is that Utah's admission to the Pac 12 was a momentous, positive event for Utah, and not a good development for BYU. The fact that Utah has been more than competitive in the Pac 12 just enhances the foregoing. The consequences are taking time to unfold, but there are profound consequences developing.

I don't know what the answer is for BYU. It's put itself into a box. Probably bolting the MWC just made matters worse.

No one here are trying to explain it any other way. However, plenty of us are enjoying mocking Utah for their lame excuse. That's just fair game given their wholly unbelievable story.

Your coach is a liar, your AD is a liar, and you stand shoulder to shoulder with suspender boy and mr. crimson. That's your level, and it's not new.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I think they should have been candid about their reasons. I don't know what they're afraid or ashamed of.

The bolded portions are doubtful. It was calculated but not for the business of Utah basketball, but for reasons unknown, perhaps mere spite.

"Profound"? Give me a fucking break. This is college basketball, nothing profound about that.

"MWC basketabll." Have you seen the state of MWC basketball? It is a nightmare. Unless and until BYU makes it to the Big XII, it has problems, no doubt.

However, merely joining a P5 conference is not the end of the road. Until one rises from the inevitability fall into mediocrity which joining one of these conferences usually entails, it is not a picnic in the sun, but it is a picnic we all want to join.

This is the same AD that treated Majerus so shabbily. Do you really expect any decency or honesty from that son of a bitch?
