BYU scored .81 points per possession, with the worst ranked team scoring .83. The sad truth is this team is not good.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Two completely different styles of basketball. Hero ball vs team ball.

Why in the world would Mika stay next year? To learn the three? Of course not. I doubt he'll ever be a stretch 4 at the next level anyway so no reason to come back.

Well, maybe his draft stock isn't very high?

Game didn't go the way everyone would prefer, I take it?

Yep. I just can't tell if it's all due to youth/inexperience or if there are deeper issues at play (teachability, system/coaching, etc.) It seems at first glance that there would have been more improvement at this point in the season if it were just inexperience, but there has been some turnover due to injuries.

I'm glad to see Childs got back in.

He'll be here because he is t likely to be drafted, loves BYU, loves his coaches and teammates, and doesn't need the money.

A couple of thoughts on this team:

I believe many People don't know how large the difference is between the top 5-10 players out of HS and the next 90-95. I hoped this season would educate them but instead it seems to have convinced them that Rose can't coach. The truth is, Rose is an amazing coach. These boys are excellent recruits and will be great basketball players. If the fan base wants to blame something, blame missions. The fan base won't blame missions but that's the problem. It will take another year for enough of the talent to get comfortable for this team' potential to be visible.

This isn't about the offense, (which has consistently changed to adjust for player and personnel grouping skills) this is about the fact that basketball passing and decision making disappears when you take time off from the game. This isn't about defense, the physical fitness to survive is not the same as the fitness necessary to go full speed on both ends for a whole season and TJ and Eric are exhausted. This is about sacrifice. These players are still sacrificing their basketball potential on the altar of missionary service and we Mormons hate that. We want to think they can get home and run on a treadmill a bit and then win a Final Four game. We want to blame excellent coaches because they can't rebuild a team as fast as Bennet without realizing that Bennet "rebuilding" was a bunch of kids from his practice squad and Rose's is a bunch of kids who were praying with people all day.

Fact is, expectations are always the curse of coaches and our fans wanted this basketball team to support their worldview so expectations got really high. We don't need new coaches, we need one year missions or basketball exemptions . Better yet, we need a little tolerance from a fan base that should know better.
