That's not true. Seems like we'll have 5 bigs on the roster next year, right? Aytes, Davis, Corbin, Austin, and Nielsen. That's 80 MPG to split between those guys, I'm guessing Nielsen is the runt struggling for the hind teat. My guess is that the pres-season and early nonconference schedule will see a lot of experimentation with these guys. Which combo works best? Need defensive rebounding, maybe you go with Davis/Austin. Post defense, Davis/Kaufusi?
It's hard to say what Aytes will bring to the table, since we haven't seen him."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Supposedly Aytes has all the post moves to the rim and can score in the paint. Sadly, that sets him apart in this bunch."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Presently, we will have 7 post players on the roster. The 5 you identify then Braiden Shaw and Jaykob Hartsock, younger brother of NATEM'F'NHARTSOCK (Boom Bitches). I don't know who will have scholarships as both Kyle Davis and Kaufusi are walk ons this year and I don't know if Rose is going to ask Austin to walk on next year. Lots to sort out with next years roster as by my count there are 15 guys vying for 13 scholarships. My recommendations is for Zac Seljaas to go straight on a mission and Nate Austin pay his way next year. But the word is Zac is still planning to play next year which I don't understand because I am not sure I see him playing very much next season. Other scholarship cuts could be if KyleC goes pro. That is not one that I would like very much and likely even understand less than Seljaas not going straight on a mission.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostSeems like we'll have 5 bigs on the roster next year, right? It is NOAH F'N HARTSOCK Son! As for Davis, he is legit! When I saw him play earlier in the year, he was the 2nd best dude on the floor behind Haws. Granted KC was still rehabbing the knee but Davis will make our team significantly better than this years team due to his ability to score inside, rebound, and defend. I would say his game is comparable to Noah's but he is more athletic. With regards to Aytes, if he can score and defend the team could be really special with Austin and Kaufusi manning the 5. This would allow Rose to go 10 deep and play aggressive defense and then basically run everyone out of the gym.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostPresently, we will have 7 post players on the roster. Zac Seljaas reminds me of Mark Bigelow in terms of his game, size and athleticism. Almost eerie how similar they seem to be. I think he can have an impact as a freshman, though his role will be much smaller than was Bigelow's. Perhaps he becomes that scorer off the bench in Winder's role or he starts at the 3. Either way, he's a guy who could come in and get double figures from day one. Also, if a guy plays as a freshman and plays well, there is always that glimmer of hope that he choose to skip the mission and play four straight. KC isn't going anywhere, btw.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostPresently, we will have 7 post players on the roster. I've seen Seljaas play a little bit. It's so hard to predict what kids will do when they step up a level. HS to college. College to NBA. But I am really impressed with Seljaas. If Seljaas is on the roster next year, I'll be surprised he plays less than 16 minutes a game. And he has a chance to work his way into the starting lineup. I wish he was stronger. And I wish he was more willing to use his height to mix it up inside, but man he is a skilled, athletic kid for 6'6. With all the AAU and advanced competition he's been playing for the last several years, he'll be ready to play on Day 1.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostPresently, we will have 7 post players on the roster. edit: I'm hacking SMR. But IIRC, I think I was the first to make the Bigelow-Seljaas comparison. hmmm....Last edited by jay santos; 03-03-2015, 03:48 PM.

I'd honestly never heard the Seljaas/Bigs comparison. At least in my own mind, it was an original.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI've seen Seljaas play a little bit. Also, I think he's a legit 6'7", but at the same time I realize who I'm arguing with

I haven't seen a ton of Seljaas but from what I've seen he has a better handle than Bigelow had. His length, athleticism, and ball handling gives him a chance to be more like Lee Cummard.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostI'd honestly never heard the Seljaas/Bigs comparison. I haven't seen him play very much yet, I just saw him for a bit against Kearns on TV, so I am optimistic about the positive reviews you folks are throwing his way. I just look at him, Toolsen and Fischer and I see similar strengths and weaknesses. They all appear to me to be kids who probably are able to score well but don't defend real well. I know they all have different games per se but all 3 players seem to me that offense will definitely be their forte. My hope is that Bartley continues to improve his offense enough that he is not a total liability (I define that as improving his free throw shooting and his jump shooting so that he can hit a 3 if left all alone while continuing to be able to penetrate - if he can average 8-10 ppg and be BYU's best perimeter defender that will be huge for BYU) on offense I hope he is playing 28 mpg next year. I expect Fischer to be the starter at the 2 and play a lot as well. That leaves about 34 mpg to be picked up between Emery, Toolsen, Chatman, Seljaas and potentially Calvert. If Emery can run the point when KyleC is out, I expect we won't see much of Calvert at all. So those 34 minutes are left between basically Emery, Toolsen, Chatman and Seljaas. Unless Seljaas is significantly better than the others at scoring the ball, which I am skeptical he will be much better than Toolsen next year, and factoring in Zac's plans to serve a mission following next year I don't see the benefit of playing him over Toolsen. But, while rare, I have been wrong before. What little I saw of Zac in the state tourney left me sharing the optimism about his offensive skills but I just wonder if he is physically ready enough to defend at the level BYU will need - especially if he is on the court with anyone other than Bartley. I am hopefull that Toolsen's being in the program for a year has made him better prepared to defend adequately next year.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI've seen Seljaas play a little bit.
