Toolson had a couple of games where I could see he has the potential to be a floor spreader. I'm more down on stretched-out nikum.....er....Nixon than I am on Toolson.

Fischer (a junior) and Halford (a senior) are the only guards who have a better percentage from behind the arc than does Toolson. He may not materialize, but I don't see how someone can call 40% from behind the arc as being a bust worthy.

Weren't folks saying the exact same thing about CK just a few weeks ago? He hasn't had much of a chance. He has shown the ability to connect from distance. In the end he will be at least a serviceable player.

Ok, "at all" was hyperbole and the small sample size seems to indicate he might be serviceable on offense but he was a liability in what turned out to be a decent defensive unit (especially given our pace of play on offense). Again, that was admittedly a small sample size and he was a young kid. Don't make me out to be someone reasonable in their opinion, GN.

I think I mentioned this before but I remember being told that Nixon was an athletic kid before coming to BYU. Either he needs his joints oiled or the person that told me that was high.

The coaches definitely wanted to see him shoot. When he got time earlier in the season, they seemed to run plays specifically for him to get an open look from 3 - often well behind the line. Unfortunately, his defense just couldn't justify him being on the floor.

Confused? Yes. Slow? No. CK is an athlete.

Again, I hope you are right.

Nixon never impressed me in HS. He was pretty much the same player.

I think Toolsen was just lost a bit this year. I tend to agree with those skeptical of Nixon as while he might be serviceable I don't think he will ever rise above much more than that at best. I still think Toolsen could be good, but I am an optimist.

I question anyone that called CK slow.

I like to evaluate players on two attributes. One: athleticism. ie quickness, strength, speed, jumping, lateral movement, foot speed, height for their position. Second: skill. ie for their position or height, their shooting, ball handling, court awareness, basketball IQ.

My ratings for some players discussed here.

                        CK: 8,2
                        Toolson: 3,6
                        Fischer: 4,7
                        Nixon: 0,5
                        Seljaas: 5,7
                        Bartley: 7,4

Someone lied to you. I watched him a lot in high school. He set a personal record by jumping three inches in a game.

Can we get a little more detail - was that 3 inches on one jump, or the cumulative total of all his jumps during the game?

It may be hard to believe, but it was in one jump.

And unfortunately, he's not half the man of the last successful three inch jumper at BYU, Noah Hartsock.
