"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Knockout Game: NCAA Tournament Knockout Pool
Possibly my favorite off-court moment of the tournament so far:

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Would now be a good time to submit a formal protest regarding this ruling?Originally posted by Donuthole View Post[COLOR=#800080]Picks are in. Those in green have paid, those in white still haven't. I'm not worried about it at this point, just get me payment when you can. We had four rebuys, so the total pot currently rests at $340.
As a housekeeping matter, yesterday when we were discussing that Omaha had submitted a Friday pick, smr also realized he had given me a Friday pick. He proposed Miami in place of Xavier, and we made the switch. IOW, he got the same mercy we showed Omaha. Here are the Friday picks:

I'm a little torn on this one. I come into today in the unenviable situation of having picked both UNC and Virginia in previous rounds, so I am more than likely done after today. The way I figure it, (I know you are all interested in this, plus I don't mind sharing as SMR's picks are basically set in stone at this point) my chances of winning the whole shooting match are:Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostWhen this tournament started, I thought ND was one of the weakest 6 seeds in recent years. Here's to hoping they stop proving me wrong tomorrow.
If I pick Notre Dame: 18%
If I pick Syracuse: 26%
That is using the win probabilities from fivethirtyeight.com (why not) and based on the following assumptions:
1. SMR is picking UNC today
2. If we both lose today, we will be shamed by Donut calling us wusses to continue on
3. If we continue on (UNC wins, I pick 'Cuse and they win, or else we both lose and vote to continue), SMR will go with Okie and I will go with Villanova
So the numbers favor Syracuse (slightly), but picking ND gives the benefit of a one game, winner take all match.
I am torn, and will use church to ponder my next move, instead of pondering on Easter or anything like that.

Dude, you've already won. I picked Villanova twice. I suck. Congrats!Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostI'm a little torn on this one. Hey you tried. I'm kind of surprised there isn't a more prominent online way of managing these knockout type of contests for March Madness.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post13 total Friday survivors owe me one (1) pick for Saturday. Anyone who lost today and wants to buy back in has to get me five (5) Saturday picks. Submit your picks before first tip at 9am Pacific/Noon Eastern. Here are the teams you can choose from (but remember, you can't pick a team you've already used--people screw this up every year, so double check!):

The church specifically requests that you don't tithe on gambling earnings. It is dirty sinful money. Enjoy the entirety of the fruits of your labors.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostTithe on your winnings. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

As I walked into the Primary room after Sacrament Meeting today, Sr. Parrot Head exclaimed (loudly) "Congratulations on your internet gambling victory!"Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostTithe on your winnings.
My policy is to tithe on net gambling proceeds, so it actually works out in my favor over time.
