Krystko and the Utes are ready to rock being better than horrible ('13-'14 edition)

So, two games into the season and the Utes are 2-0 and averaging over 100 points a game. What does that tell us? It tells us that the opposition has sucked. With that said, there is some reason for optimism and I could not be happier. Seriously, tears of joy happy. Do you know what these past few years have been liked? I have sat in the stands, all by myself usually, and cried. Even when Boylen had a few nice players, I had to deal with his yelling at me through a microphone and him dancing around screaming on the sidelines. We actually have a team that can do something on the court besides look really bad and get beat by UC Bakersfield Tech...by 20. Now we have something going on and here are some positive reasons that things are looking up:

    1. The Utes are athletic - Now, this often means nothing. Past athletic Utes include Dom Lee and well, others too and none of them turned out. But this year, the Utes can trot out 5 or 6 very athletic and very entertaining players (Fields, Onwas, Ogbe, Wright and Tucker) who can get to the rim and fly around like only super athletic guys can. How will they do this year, I don't know, you tell me...I aint no fortune teller.

    2. More than one Fabulous player - For the past 5 years or so, the Utes will have one pretty good player and nothing else. This year, the Utes have 2!! Yes, you read it right. The Utes have TWO pretty good players. Loveridge will continue to improve and he was a very nice freshman last year. But now he has a partner in basketball crime...Delon Wright. This kid can play. He can play point or shooting guard and he is going to make some noise.

    3. Nice complimentary players - There are some players that can contribute this year and be solid second fiddles on this team. Bradon Taylor is improving off of last years' surprise season. Renan Lenz was a big recruit who was awful last year but this year, he is showing signs of life. Jeremy Olsen is solid underneath...Onwas and Ogbe both show they can play but will have first year hiccups.

    4. Short memories - We are now a couple of seasons worth removed from that atrocious, sad, embarrassing, tear creating, humbling, dismal, abominable 6-25 season. There is not one player on the roster from that season. Except for Krystko and he has had that section, the part which remembers that season, removed from his brain. No recollection. The other bonus, there were only about 37 of us fans in the stadium during that season and most have since subjected themselves to watching porn, snuff films and seeing animals butchered to crowd out memories of that season. Its a clean slate for most of us now.

    5. Krystko - say what you want about the man and how he burned the program down to the ground, but he can coach and he is showing that he can recruit. The Ute pace is much more uptempo than it has been because he has better players to be able to handle it. He is getting recruits that Utah has not seen in years (Loveridge, Wright, Chapman, Kuzma, etc.).

Overall, I don't think Utah will finish in the top 6 of the conference, but I also see 20 wins as a real possibility (thanks to the bad schedule and improved play). I see a pleasingly average 8 or 9 wins in the PAC-12 this year. 19 wins for this season. I will take it because the future is looking brighter. Average has never looked or tasted so good.

That ooc schedule is an embarrassment to college basketball.

I agree. No doubt. I kinda understand why he scheduled it, but it should have been better this year...it HAS to be better next year. That is a legitimate complaint about Krystko is his unwillingness to play some name schools in preseason. Next year, the Utes could have a chance of an NCAA or NIT place but this type of schedule next year would be unacceptable. As a breakdown of the opponents:

          WAC teams: Grand Canyon
          WCC teams: BYU
MoWest teams: Boise State, Fresno State
          Southland teams: Lamar
          Mid American: Ball State
Big Sky: Idaho State, UC Davis
          SunBelt: Texas State
No Idea: St. Kath, Savannah State

The SOS for Utah will be greatly enhanced by playing some real good PAC-12 teams...but this schedule is an out of conference schedule that only an SEC football coach would love.

Good point. I went too broad with my statement. It should have been limited to divisions 1 and 2.

Sounds like Utah is picking up some nice recruits this year.

The Ute commentary is more entertaining when they lose. IF they remain mediocre or average, it is not so humorous. Krysto seems to be a decent coach. C'est domage.

Yeah I don't know if I could handle Utah upgrading to mediocre. I like em right where they're at.

Next time I see you CJ, I am going to give you a big hug...a manly hug that leaves little to the imagination.

People here have demanded that I give them an update of Ute hoops and that is why I posted it.
