NCAA Tourney Thread

BYU misse being in the tourney for the first time in a number of years. This results in my interest in the tourney being down a bit, but not much. I always love March Madness, but I loved it more when I lived in Utah because games started an hour earlier.

Lots of mid majors that are poised to do some damage this year. It's a good year for the Zags a the lack of a dominant team could result in them going deep. It would be nice to see a team from a non-major conference win it all (when's the last time that happened?). VCU and Butler got decent seeds and could make the sweet sixteen. The MWC got 5 teams in with New Mexico being a 3 seed (I miss that conference for basketball). The most interesting seeding IMO is Saint Louis as a 4

I think I'll go ahead and call my shot and say this is the year the WCC rules with the Zags bringing home the title.

Texas has zero teams in the NCAA tourney. Think about it - the second most populous state with probably well over 20 teams and not one made the cut. It's one thing for a smaller state like Utah to not place a team in the NCAA tourney, but Texas? Even Nebraska is represented.

I think the local (Utah) radio guys said that's the first time that's happened in 19 years, and the first time since 1977 for Texas.

This is hilarious. The SEC coaches are upset their conference only got 3 bids. Marshall Henderson was right, the SEC coaches are losers. I hope Ole Miss goes on a run just so I can watch that d-bag. I still want to punch him all the time, but the dude is hilarious. And since he's no longer in a Utah uniform I find his antics hilarious. That dude knows how to piss off a crowd and get in his opponents heads.

BTW, the losers comment came after the SEC championship game. Here's his comments:

First he said, “Shout out to Doug Gottlieb, who said it was a travesty if we made the Tournament.” Then, when asked how he felt about getting snubbed for All-SEC honors, he responded, “Those coaches [who voted] are all losers right now. I’m not.” And finally, asked about the Gator taunt, he said, “I dreamed I gave them the Gator chomp. Then I woke up and said, ‘Hmmmm, gator bait.’”

The best part is there was a tweet before the game saying that SEC officials asked that Henderson not participate in the post game press conference. The tweet was misinformed but a reporter apparently didn't know that and asked Marshall if he knew he was banned. He responded:

“I’m banned? I don’t care. I got my hardwood. I’m out.”

The best part about Henderson is that he is really not that good. He ia averaging exactly 20 ppg, however he is shooting a dismal 34% from the floor and he is taking 11 threes a game.

20 ppg on 34% FGs? That has to be nearly unprecedented. I don't remember ever seeing anything like that pretty much at any level of basketball.

It looks like his run through the SEC tournament helped him quite a bit. He shot over 40% in all 6 games and is now up to 38% on the year and 34% from three. That is still not very good considering the volume of shots he takes.
