  • I don't get the Carlino rumors the past couple of years. The kid has been given every opportunity at BYU to blossom into a star and he plays like a star 40% of the time. However, he plays very poorly 25% of the time and then decent 35% of the time. His best position is point guard with the ball in his hands but his inconsistency and the fact that when he is down, the whole team is dragged down more than it is with any other player necessitates him coming off the bench. When he is on in this role BYU can exploit it and when he is off there are other options. I doubt he would get a better opportunity elsewhere.

Now if Matt dislikes BYU because he is not LDS and BYU is weird and he just wants to move on with his life while playing another year of ball since he is not going to be a bigtime baller, that is a different case. But from a playing perspective he is in as good a situation as he can be in given his limitations as a player, IMO. Further, when considering that there is some degree of probability that there will be no other option next year but Matt if Kyle doesn't return, Matt may get to keep going even when he is off as much next year as he did his sophomore year.

If he transfers and Kyle doesn't recover it will hurt real bad. I think that even if Kyle recovers Matt will still average close to 25 mpg. From a playing hoops at this level perspective I cannot see him finding a better situation.

I agree. So unless he's moving on for social reasons, I don't see why he would if he even qualifies. I wasn't advocating for his transfer despite his head-scratching play.

I feel bad for Carlino in a way. It isn't like he has a couple of fluke great games. He has a lot of really good games. Then he has games where in all honesty he is just plain bad and hurts the team.

It's like being able to hit the green and two putt half of the time.

            • Nobody has mentioned the Lady Cougars playing against UConn in the Sweet Sixteen. Perhaps it was done in another thread.

UConn is number one, undefeated and mowing through its opposition. It would be a major victory to be within twenty. In any event, a Sweet Sixteen appearance is a success. Last time the Lady Cougars were there was 2002.

                It's because they're girls.

You responded to a post about it in the other thread.

What he is really saying is he didn't get attention he wanted for his post in the other thread so he is going to repost again. Same reason he starts so many threads with the same topics. He craves attention.

Thanks. I couldn't remember where it was and if others discussed the event. I assumed some of you knew more about the team than I. From I can tell from stats, they have one center and a bunch of guards. One of the bench players is the daughter of a friend.

It seems highly unlikely but could you imagine if they pulled off the shocker. Again, I don't imagine BYU has sufficient means to pull that off, but I admit to having not watched a single women's basketball game of any kind this year. I like Juddy and remember last time his team made it this far.

                      Have you watched them?

I haven't watched a women's basketball game since I was a student and the only way to get Utah game tickets was to go to the lady cougar's game 2 weeks before the Utah game. Sounds like we couldn't handle the Nebraska press very well. I expect UConn to win by 20.

Given the margin of victory in UConn's previous games, a loss by 20 might be a minor miracle. When did BYU make you attend women's games to get game tickets? I hadn't heard of that tactic before.

I think it started in '99. See the stories below. It was totally worth it to get a good seat and see Travis Hansen come back and beat the Utes in 2002.
