Blech. We can't generate points - missed layups, free throws. USC shot the ball very well. Frustrating.

You could have asked creekster to change it, or at least acknowledged your defamation of Pius Aeneas. (And does your phone put the "u" next to the "a"?)

This is the worst loss of the season. Worse than Northridge. Ugh.

By the way, I really did intend for this post to be more joking than it came across. Sorry.

Which is why these claims of progress without wins to back it up are worthless. Boylen apologists also claimed progress after losses.

It was a bad loss. But mostly Larry was playing the odds and USC shooting was defying the odds. Larry kept waiting for them to tire and for their hot hands to cool down, and they never did. They were circulating between 3 centers, so could stay fresh.

Also Larry was running a weird lineup. Substituting from Washburn to Olsen without Basheenkshi in between. Its too late in the season to be experimenting.

Also Washburn had one return to his old "the basics ain't for me" self, but then quickly swapped back from his doppleganger.

For a big man Olsen plays really small.

Progress is progress, and anyone should be able to see it. If their struggles are that painful for you to watch, do what I did during Boylen's last year: stop paying attention until things change. It'll be good for your soul and for your mood, as well as the mood of those around you. Still, you're right. They've got to get some conference wins. Yesterday was a setback and a reminder of how far we have to go.

The game plan was to deny USC the paint and make them beat Utah from outside, which is just what they did. Here are some interesting (and depressing) stats:
                            • By percentage Utah is the 4th best team in the Pac-12 in 3-pt shooting (and that is after this recent slump).
                            • By percentage USC is the 10th best team in the Pac-12 in 3 pt shooting.
                            • By percentage Utah is 2nd best team in the Pac-12 in 3-pt Defense.
                            • By percentage USC is the #11 team in the Pac-12 in 3-pt Defense.
                            • In the game: USC goes 7-14 from 3 and Utah goes 4-15. They were hot, and Utah had no adjustment for that.
                            • As for FT shooting, until yesterday Utah was leading the league as a team. We saw what happened yesterday.

So it was a pretty epic meltdown. In the post-game presser Krysko said he will meet with every player prior to Monday practice. Those will not be fun meetings.

                            EDIT: Krysko addresses the strategy:

Krystkowiak was disappointed in his team’s overall lack of aggressiveness and acknowledged that the coaches’ strategy of leaving the Trojans open from outside backfired.

“They don’t have great shooters and part of our game plan was we were going to keep the ball out of the paint,’’ Krystkowiak said. “I don’t know if that message got misconstrued with us not playing hard enough. It was almost like we needed to approach this game like they were great shooters, so we could be out on them. There were some possessions early in the half where we dared some guys to shoot. When those shots go in, it was hard to deal with.’’

Beating Utah does nothing for job security these days.
