That season was an aberration on the way down, if Ute fans are honest about it.

Also the 2004-05 team had the AP player of the year and was a sweet sixteen team.

Stop it. We had an RPI of 9, had a borderline NBA talent at center and four guys that shot 40 percent from 3. That we didn't get further might be used as an indictment of Jimmy but let's not pretend that was a very good team that played fun hoops.

We're great at revising history to make us feel better about the present. As if last nights loss was somehow an indicator that were close to being where we were under Majerus.

FWIW, I didn't think we'd force OT and lose by a point. The score leaves me wondering, did anyone try and force tempo? After last years Utah team, it would be easy to say we were the ones mucking it up. But Sendek is notorious for slowdown hoops from his days at NC State and Miami of Ohio. I would like to hear some perspective on this issue.

You are right. It is true that we have not had a solid decade of mediocre basketball. Far from it:

              2002: NCAA 1st Round
              2003: 2nd Round
              2004: 2nd Round
              2005: Sweet 16
              2008: CBI 2nd Round
2009: NCAA 1st Round (IIRC this is the year the last Majerus-recruited player graduated)

Only Boylen's last 2 seasons had losing records. So it is a mistake to say Utah has had a long drought of bad hoops. It's been a 3-year drought. Prior to that spell of mediocrity (or just plaint awfulness last year) we had 7 seasons that were pretty good, but mostly unsatisfying because of what Big Rick had gotten us used to prior to 2002, which was an era when "one and done" was not what Utah basketball teams did.

Utah was the one pushing to slow down the game. Many times did you Utah hold the ball until 10 on the shot clock. This seemed more of a factor in that Utah doesn't have any good scorers.

I realize that one or even two appearances in the Big Dance over a 10 year span is huge for BYU, but for Ute fans, it's less than mediocre.

We have an identical number of appearances in the big dance.

You guys have just done more while you were there. So you may want to amend your earlier statement.

Look, we are just trying to self-medicate here. Have some compassion.

I am comfortable with that. But you were flagellating D Hole and that is where I draw the line.
