One knock against Miller is that he could have come to Utah had he wanted. When Stockton retired, Miller's contract with Cleveland was up and he was offered a contract to come play for the Jazz. But he was too afraid to be the guy who followed a HoF player and instead, signed with the Clippers.

I disagree. Wallace Stegner could have been Utah's Faulkner, but you won't see anything commemorating him. The ony people who get any credit are LDS, and if you critiqued or were somehow opposed to LDS institutions you will be systematically precluded from the Utah history books no matter how great you may be.

Maybe if Stegner was in the top 10 of all novel sales we would consider it.

I love the irony of Ute fans using Millers longevity as a milestone. These same fans were ripping Ty Detmer for never doing anything in the NFL but holding a clipboard for 15 seasons. Whoops.

Miller's 15 year career > Detmer's 15 year career. Even you can't deny this.

since I brought this up, I wasn't expecting a two page sports story. I would have settled for a tweet, simply stating that Miller surpassed Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens on the NBA all assist list. I'd bet a lot of Utah Fans aren't aware that he is ahead of notable names like a Jerry West, Terry Porter, Nate Archibald, or Bob Cousy in all time assists.

I had been on the fence of this whole BUY vs. Utah thing but now, reading this thread and seeing this post's impeccable logic in particular, I guess I just have to concede the greatness that is Utah! Look, a basketball player played in more games than a football player! And, gosh, the same basketball player is eleventh all time in assists in the NBA! What more proof could anyone ever present to show the superiority of Utah? Could it be any plainer? My only regret is that it took Miller 15 years to rise to eleventh to allow me to see this truth.

Easy there, monkey. First, my logic is fine. My point wasn't that a basketball player (Miller) had played more games than a football player (Detmer), it was that he had sat out of far less games, even though his sport has 5 times as many games. That is a pretty reasonable response to a comparison made of the two player's careers.

Second, no one made any claims of Utah's superiority based on Andre Miller's stellar career, though I can certainly see how you could reach that conclusion.

Finally, of course it's silly, that's what makes it fun.

Yes, Ty Detmer rarely playing his entire career is exactly the same as Andre Miller playing 34.2 mpg and starting over 90% of the games played in his career.
