Well, it looks like the Utes may come up just a bit short.

Tough to win at the Galen Center when you're playing 8 on 5 all night.

    Stupid refs.

Farr showing some toughness. I like that kid. The lead's only 12. (!!!). USC practicing treys now. Krysko building character.

Really, no shame in losing to this Southern Cal team, though. Very scrappy group, very well coached. They are probably a threat to win another game in the conference.

Who is Jim Sterkel? The court is named after him.

Don't give up! USC has all scrubs on the floor now. Time to strike!

This ute team is showing progress by expanding their repertoire. They are now losing to teams with zero conference wins.

One positive: lost by less than 20 points.

Utes, looks like you've got yourselves a coach.

FIFY, but then again, in error since SU doesn't go to any Utah games.

                        [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galen_Center"]Galen Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]:

The Galen Center's basketball court was named after former USC Basketball player Jim Sterkel, who played for the Trojans for two unremarkable seasons in the 1950s, averaging only 10 points a game. Two unique factors in the naming rights were the obscurity of the name choice and that the Sterkel family was not aware that the court was named after the late Jim Sterkel until after the facility had already opened. B. Wayne Hughes, a longtime friend of Sterkel's, made the $5 million dollar donation under the agreement that his name never be revealed. In an interview with Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Plaschke, Anonymous revealed that he grew up with Sterkel: both attended Mark Keppel High School, both began at USC in 1955 and were roommates, and though Sterkel never graduated from USC, the two remained friends. Later in life, Sterkel was hired by Anonymous, who had become a successful businessman. When Sterkel contracted cancer, Anonymous helped with his treatment. When Anonymous' own son contracted leukemia, Sterkel wrote a poem for Anonymous, sealed it, and ordered it only to be read if Anonymous' son died. Sterkel died from cancer in 1997, Anonymous' son succumbed less than two years later. Touched by the poem and Sterkel's care, Anonymous made the donation to the Galen Center noting: "Some people don't deserve to be forgotten."
                        So now you know.

That second road game is always a challenge as ASU learned in SLC a whle ago. It didn't seem to be a problem for St. Mary's last night, however.

USC was favored by 16, so it beat the spread.

Be excited about the progress. Last year, Boylen would have probably lost both games of this road trip. This year, Krysko definitely lost both games of this road trip by a combined total of almost 50 points. It is pretty obvious at this point that things are looking better.

Don't mention the St. Mary's game here, the fact that the fans actually got T-d up (have you ever seen that?), or the performance of The Next Jimmer at Point Guard U. It's not polite.

                                http://www.latimes.com/sports/colleg...,2855876.story

On Friday, Jackson had said: "We can't focus on what we don't have -- we have to focus on what we do have."

What the Trojans had Saturday was a beatable opponent.

Utah, coming off a 76-49 loss to UCLA, remained winless on the road and fell to 5-16, 2-7 in conference play.
