Odds to win tourney

Forget about the bottom of my post, I just realized Santos was posting his odds. The Vegas odds have UNC at 5/2, and Memphis at 6/1 and UConn at 5/1. Basically, you can't make money by making 8 bets of an even amount of money on eight different teams with a team like UNC winning it all.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Oklahoma peaked a month too early. The Oklahoma of three weeks ago could have run the table, but the team has never gotten back into a rhythm since Blake sat out several games with a concussion.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostJust FYI I predicted them to win it all that year. In fact I have predicted every champion correctly since Maryland in 2002. I am hoping to keep my streak alive this year by going with Oklahoma. But I do reserve the right to change my mind before tomorrow morning.

The crazy thing about the Kansas pick is that I was in a bracket challenge last year that was $100 a piece. The final game came down to me and another guy, he had Memphis I had Kansas. $2500 was on the line and Mario Chalmers picture is now on my wall at home.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostYou got Florida in 2006 also? That's impressive. Your pick of Oklahoma suprises me. They only have two players that average double digits in points and that usually doesn't bode well come tourney time.
Half the years are easy to pick: Maryland in 2002, UConn in 2004, UNC in 2005, Florida in 2007. But Syracuse, Florida 2006 and Kansas last year wouldn't have been easy.
Also, it seems like someone could make some money here. If you put the same amount of money on the three favorites and then some of your darkhorse picks, wouldn't you at least cover the money you put in? I guess I don't understand payouts on these bets, but if OU is 22:1 odds, does that mean you make $2,200 if you bet $100? If you picked six teams, placed $100 on each, and one of the favorites win (say UNC at 8:1 odds) didn't you still just make $200? I'm of the opinion that the real contenders can be narrowed down to around 8 teams: UNC, Louisville, Pitt, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Villanova, Wake MAYBE Syracuse or Memphis (yeah I know this is 9 teams).*Banned*

Just to let you know, Vegas has Oklahoma as 25:1 favorites. Put $100.00 down and get another $2500. It would have been difficult to pick Kansas over UNC and Memphis last year. Wake's 40:1, Nova 35:1 and Syracuse is 50:1.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostThe crazy thing about the Kansas pick is that I was in a bracket challenge last year that was $100 a piece. Mine are true probabilities converted into odds. Mine probably correlate pretty closely to Vegas' starting point. Then they will price them up to create a situation they're ensured to profit. Sports betting doesn't pay.
