The miles between 1-AA football and NAIA basketball could cover galaxies. Especially since Tressel won something like a gazillion national championships at Youngstown State. What confuses me is your endorsement of Connor, then an apparent 180 and saying Hill's "coaching experience" definition is bunk.

I didn't say Hill's coaching experience definition is bunk, I said it's moronic and a really stupid way to limit your pool of candidates. Jim Boylen was an abomination so no assistants should even be considered. That's just silly logic.

Juddy, like Donnie, isn't coming back to Utah. That ship has sailed.

I don't buy that Daniels wanted to come back as an assistant. He didn't even get the slightest sniff for the job TWICE, why in the world would he want to come back as an assistant. That's a laughable rumor, even by UF.net standards.

Giaco started 4-1 against BYU, and Boylen had the OT win in '09. I'm not sure what Kerry Rupp had to do with any of those.

No. Daniels' one attempt at head coach was a huge crash and burn.

I would love to have Daniels as an assistant. Great recruiter, great people person...but a less than successful stint as a HC. I sure wish he would come back to Utah because that would be a homerun hire. But I am not fretting yet...give Krystko some time to find the right staff.

I do like the Connor hire. He knows the state of Utah basketball. He knows the High School coaches. That is a very good step. He is also a good Xs and Os guy. It will be fun to see who else is added to the staff.

OBrien has asked for a release. That would be a real loss for the team. Even though he can't shoot, he had some great potential and would have been one of the main guys this year. If you lose OBrien and now with Clyburn, it makes me nervous that Matthews and someone else leaves. With all that said, I am still fine with the coaching change. Boylen's team would have had a better record next year...thus keeping him and miring Utah in less than mediocrity for years to come.

I hope that OBrien changes his mind - but I can think of a bunch of programs that would take him on if they have scholarships. It should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Just read that his release was granted but that he may still return if he feels Utah is his best option. I'm thinking he may be underestimating the number of programs that would like to have him, either that or he's being polite.
