I wouldn't give up on Zylstra yet. He's got good size for his position and is not a complete stiff. He can shoot. He's improved each year.

If you told me he's going to get significant minutes this year, my initial thought would be that that would be a bad thing. But I would not be surprised if he comes through and contributes is a good way. I can possibly seeing him as a glue guy like former senior seasons of Balderson, the Burgess kid that played the 2, and the coach's son in law name's escaping me.

Zylstra could be that type of player, but IMO when one has those types of players it is usually because they have nobody better. IMO, BYU is going to start Abuou and Rogers at the wings. The primary sub will be Demarcus Harrison. Through those 3 wings I think BYU has better players than Zylstra or any of the former glue guys. Whether or not Zylstra sees significant minutes will likely boil down to whether or not Josh Sharp can play any minutes on the wing or whether or not Anson Winder can play. I don't know enough about either Sharp or Winder to have an opinion, but it is my hope that one of them plays more minutes than Zylstra.

Have no idea what to expect of Harrison. Was excited after that first game in Greece, but he seems to be a long ways behind everyone else right now. Harrison might not be as ready as we think.

I actually agree. I was hoping he'd be further along but from what I have seen he has shown flashes but not ready to be a significant contributor. Though I do like his defense. I am just hoping he can find his role in the offense.

Zylstra's problem (well, the one addressed for now) has been, and apparently continues to be, that he doesn't see himself as being like Burgess or Reichner. Zylstra continues to view himself as a scorer. Years ago he should have given that dream up and focused on actually being able to keep his head in the game defensively and then waiting for a kick out for a perimeter jumper. But he gets on the court and his only focus is trying to be BYU's J.R. Smith.

And headed into a season where Jimmer and Emery are gone I'm sure Brock thinks his FGAs just went waaayyy up and that's what he's looking for.

I think he will be the primary reserve wing player off the bench and play about 20-25 mpg depending upon fouls.

I play Saturday morning ball with guys twice his age that have twice as much game as him.
Solid line for a guy that is terrible and would not start or play more than 10 min. per game on any D-1 team. It doesn't strengthen your case to over dramatize. Does he have weaknesses? Many. Does he have strengths? Yes. Is he a star for the Cougs? I hope not. Is he serviceable within a defined and limited role? I think so.

You are relying an awful lot on the past week while conveniently ignoring the entire last season.

Weren't you all over this guy's tip this time last year?

Big Game James had a few solid outings here and there, also. Let's not get carried away.

This should give you an idea of Brick Zylstra's worth. When we ran into the team in New Orleans on their way to the team bus, Zylstra was the last person to walk over from the hotel. They were all set to leave but remembered him at the last second.

Keep wishing that someday your asinine statements from a year ago will come to fruition. Zylstra is terrible and has no role on this team or any other competetive college basketball team. If he gets an sort of minutes this year it is from pure necessity and this BYU squad will not be any good.

If you watched the game you will see that those numbers were highly inflated and the only person on BYUs team that belonged on that floor was Abouo.

Notice how no mention of Zylstras turnovers or the fact that his man scored on him on 4 straight possessions to start the 2nd half because he was out of position or gambling for steals. He stole a pass early on a gamble so he decided to try it 6 more times giving up easy buckets.

I did not watch the games but I really want to believe that Rogers also belonged on the floor. So please, in the future, when qualifying your opinion based upon what you saw, go ahead and lie for me.

If those two belonged, give me Davies and Collinsworth and I think BYU can have a pretty solid hoops team. Definitely worthy of the NCAA tourney...and maybee even lucky enough to squeak out one win.

Rogers looked terrible today. Sorry. His defense was especially bad. I think every single one of his fouls went for an and 1.

In the first 4 or 5 minutes Rogers was solid then he got in foul trouble and started playing ole' defense.

Rogers will be very valuable for BYU as he is the only pure shooter on this team. (Unless Carlino has something).
