I'm a big fan of Miller. I had some interaction with him when I was in grad school and he was a Prop 48freshman. Nice kid, soft spoken, and a hard worker. I have many other "favorites" but he is the most recent.

Just tell me who your #1 fav bball team is.Originally posted by happyone View PostI started watching the Utes when Ticky Burden and Mike Soujoner(SP) took second in the NIT. IIRC Jeff Jonas and Jeff Judkins were also on that team.
They are my second favorite College BB team and 3rd College FB team. That is definately heresy, but in the words of the immortal Walter Cronkite "That's the way it is."Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I'm with MRD: Alex Jensen. His defense beat UNC in '98. I also loved Trace Caton.Originally posted by falafel View PostJust tell me who your #1 fav bball team is.
I missed two prime KVH years due to the LDS corvée so I feel like I didn't know Keith as much as I would have liked to.
After his final home game, I bumped into Andre and his family at the TGIF on Foothill (MRD was there too). I snapped some photos for Andre while his family posed together and we chatted for a minute. He's a really humble, nice guy. Or, at least he was."More crazy people to Provo go than to any other town in the state."

I have a vague recollection of the late '90's Utah teams, and with the aid of other Ute fans I have a ton of respect and admiration for those guys that made deep tournament runs. But I wasn't old enough or a big college sports fan until high school. So guys like Nick Jacobsen, Britton Johnsen, and Marc Jackson hold more meaning for me.
Bogut was a fantastic player, and that 2004-05 team was fun to watch, but it's hard(er) to fall in love with a two-year guy.
Basically, I'd probably say Van Horn because he signaled the beginning of the best five-year run Utah will ever have."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

and a fellow viewmont alumnus! good guy, great family.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostAlex Jensen is by far my favorite Basketball Ute ever. Dunno. A few names that come to mind are Danny Vranes, Tom Chambers and Manny Hendrix. Always loved Karl Bankowski's hustle. KVH, Miller and Bogut as well."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

This thread is bringing back great memories. Pace Manion, Albert Springs, Clyde Rivers. Some of those Jerry Pimm teams were a lot of fun to watch.
My all-time favorite is hard to choose. Grant, Soto and Walter Watts were on the early Majerus teams that were a lot of fun to watch. But, 1998 NC game team were all terrific. Alex Jensen, Andre, doleac. Loved those guys and love the great Utah hoops stars.
Someone mentioned Byron Wilson. He was such an exciting player to watch. My dad was in the hospital and through some friends, Byron came to visit him. I was there and got to chat with Byron and my dad (who was a huge Ute basketball and football fan). Byron was, to me, a superstar. He was dynamite on the court and also at the bedside of a sick fan. Class act.
My sister had a huge crush on Tim McLaughlin. Remember him? Seriously, some of those Pimm teams were great fun.

I'll always remember Albert Spring denying Brad Dougherty at the rim in that '86 tournament game in Ogden. One of my favorite memories of Jimmy Soto was when he appeared on a coaches show with Majerus. This was back in the day that the coaches show was on channel 7 with Bill Marcroft. Majerus was telling a story of Jimmy Soto's mom making him dinner. He described how delicious the food tasted, and then commented that it burned so bad on the way out that he blew a hole through the toilet afterwards. Jimmy Soto just sat there with a very amused look on his face, almost like he didn't know whether to laugh or be shocked that his coach just made that comment.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostWalter Watts and Jimmy Soto have a special place in my heart.
majerus lacked some common sense with comments, but in a way that's what made him so charming. he recruited terrific players that fans really connected with. that could be a big part of why ute fans have drifted away. while we have had good players under giac and boylen, there hasn't been a strong bond with the coaches or the players like majerus and these players had. maybe that's due to a lack of any local talent on the rosters or maybe it's just a lack of personality from the players or the coaches. no matter what, marjerus had it going on at full steam.Last edited by OrangeUte; 03-26-2011, 05:38 AM.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
