Speaking of the Celtics, Andre Miller just passed Bob Cousy on the all time assists list, whoever he is.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI am a Laker fan, most intensely during the 70s and 80s. What is it with Utah athletes. Racking up points and assists, but zero championships? Miller, Malone, Stockton....Originally posted by DU Ute View PostSpeaking of the Celtics, Andre Miller just passed Bob Cousy on the all time assists list, whoever he is.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Thanks for making me feel really old. Sorry, I'm not an Ancient of Days like you, and I know who Bob Cousy is. How in the hell can anyone be an NBA fan and not know who Mr. Basketball is?Originally posted by LA Ute View PostThanks for making me feel really old. You stick around long enough and stay relatively injury free you are bound to break records. Also what does that tell you about the assist? A guy that has averaged 7.2 for his career is in the top 15.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWhat is it with Utah athletes. Racking up points and assists, but zero championships? That means if they stick around 7- 10 more years D-will, Paul, Rose, Wall, and Rondo will all be top 10.*Banned*

Darren doubtful, the way he is tanking games and dogging it in New Jersey.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostYou stick around long enough and stay relatively injury free you are bound to break records. DU Ute is just a whippersnapper. I suspect he really does know who Cousy is - why, he's the guy right behind Andre Miller on the all-time assists list!Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostSorry, I'm not an Ancient of Days like you, and I know who Bob Cousy is. Interesting thing about Deron is he is averaging 13 assists per game since going to NJ. People keep praising that (once again an overrated stat) yet he is only shooting 30% from the floor 26% from three, his scoring is down 7 points per game, and his turnovers are up 1 per game.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostDarren doubtful, the way he is tanking games and dogging it in New Jersey.
Yet all we keep hearing about are his assists.*Banned*

I can't find much to disagree with with Santos' take, but at the same time I think Jimmer makes these "marginal talents" a lot better than they otherwise would be, and I also think that there are a few guys that actually are good D-1 caliber players that haven't been asked to shine.
Emery has elite skills on D, and because of Jimmer he doesn't need to do anything other than make open 3s on O. Abouo is a great talent, but hasn't lived up to his potential. I could see him averaging 15 for us next year, but I could also see him averaging 6. KC needs a RS year (or some mission slacking) to develop a jumpshot, but he's a monster athlete with potential to develop into a monster basketball player.
So while I do think that BYU is about as close to a one-man team as possible, I think the ensemble is good enough to go deep this year, and good enough to be borderline top-25 next year if one or two of the 3 new guards pans, Abouo and Rogers develop, and Davies comes back.

Has this actually been announced yet? AFAIK, Rose just offered a kid a schollie. We HOPE that Martineau's is being pulled. The alternative is much worse.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI read this morning Rose pulls Martineau's schollie and offers it to a kid out of North Carolina and my immediate reaction is "YES this is the PERFECT time to capitalize on this publicity and reign in a big recruit we wouldn't ordinarily get". And then I see it's a white LDS kid whose best offer is Utah State.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I would be surprised if Davies is not back at BYU next year. I could see him redshirting next year, however. I think if Stillman! (great "Stripes" reference) White doesn't jump on the BYU Road Show, the Y will go toward the JC ranks for PG help for next year. Now WRT to Davies, if Zylstra is not let go methinks then Davies will play next year. If BYU goes after a JC big with Zylstra's scholie then it indicates that Davies will be suspended next year and then start worrying that Brandon will leave, however if he transfers he still would have to sit out a year.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostHas this actually been announced yet? Personally, I prefer Davies redshirting next year and working on his strength for post defense and his range on offense. Brandon just turned 19 so he is chronologically a year behind his class. I always thought he could have used a year to catch up physically, it would improve his defense immensely. Offensively, if he could pick and pop from beyond the arc he would be deadly. I think that if he redshirts, BYU has another chance to make a national level run in 3 years with a starting 5 of Carlino, Harrison, Haws, C. Collinsworth and Davies. Off the bench it would be Emery, Winder, K. Collinsworth, Parker er uhhhhh Big Love and Nate Austin.
It will be a great 1st year in Big 12 hoops!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!
