  • I don't want to read the entire thread, and perhaps this has been mentioned, but how valuable was Collinsworth last night?

He's playing the best basketball of his season, absolutely leaving it all out on the floor and his ability to take some pressure off Jimmer with his ability to handle the ball has been huge. KC has been fun to watch during these two tournament games. He doesn't want to go home.

I keep wondering if some coed can give him a quarter or half-Davies and put the mission on the back page. He could be suspended for summer term.

Absolutely agree. KC has been rebounding well and taking it hard to the hole and that was huge against Gonzaga.

Against Wofford I thought he tried to do a little bit too much as far as handling the ball and too much dribbling. I think BYU is at its best when Jimmer handles the ball on every possession. But if KC and Abouo can slash to the basket, hit open shots, and maybe most importantly if they defend and rebound well, then BYU is very good.

Can I get technical definitions for the quarter and the half - does the quarter-Davies stay below a Bishop's radar?

          • The Cougs defense yesterday was terrific. Obviously most of the talk is about the incredible shooting, but several key steals and defensive stops were key to those scoring runs. If BYU keeps
Playing defense like that, they can definitely beat Florida.

I still can't figure out putting little John Stockton on Fredette. That's a complete mismatch. I didn't catch it, but did the guard who defended Fredette in the early minutes of that game get into foul trouble?

Jimmer is clearly playing better than anyone else in the tourney right now. But, the cougs role players are also playing better than anyone else in the tourney right now. That game's performance, against most teams in this tournament, would have resulted in a win - all pistons firing on both sides of the ball. Emery is a terrific defensive ball player.

The talk I remember from the announcers was about how amazing Majerous was, he stayed up until 3 in the morning with George Karl before the Carolina game diagramming defenses on a napkin was the story that kept getting retold during the broadcast.
I don't remember this. Why would George Karl help Majerus beat his beloved Heels and his mentor, Dean Smith?

Mark Few called BYU's defense a "soft zone" but with Emery in there the team defense becomes surprisingly good. Hartsock also has a knack for getting a lot of blocks for a relatively unathletic guy.

Maybe that was the Arizona game, not the UNC game. George and Rick had a Wisconsin connection of some kind, Nelly or McGuire.

Karl and Majerus are good friends. I think with coaches it's more about "the game" then it is a particular team. Majerus was very open about using Karl to game plan during that tourney. While I don't think that kind of game planning is common (usually you have assistants for that) Majerus was deeply connected to some of the best coaches like Karl and Nelson.

It was before the Arizona game, not the FF game.

His rebounding has been godsend. His inability to finish drives me nuts, but that will improve.

Well to keep him from a mission it needs to get to the Bishop.

I know that, but George Karl is Carolina Blue through and through. And his love and respect of Dean Smith makes it hard for me to believe he would help Majerus against his alma mater. I'm not saying it didn't happen. I just don't remember that and it surprises me.

It reminded me of the amoeba defense - the cougs seemed to be everywhere on every play last night.
