CSU did themselves no favors losing to Air Force late in the season, then bowing out in the first round of the MWC tournament. And New Mexico's wins over BYU were very nice, obviously, but their RPI was horrible.

Abstractly the MWC deserved a 4th team, but picking that 4th team in reality proved to be too much of a hurdle.

Can someone explain these play-in games, why they didn't make 8 16 seeds and force them to play in like they used to, and why they randomly selected 11 or 12 to be the play in games? And why is the first round now the second round? And if you're a 12 and you beat a 12, does that mean you have a tournament win under your belt and isn't that lame? We go 20 years without a tourney win and two 50th rated teams play each other and someone gets a tourney win out of it?

It makes sense to me. You make the 4 worst "AQ" teams play for the chance to get the doors blown off by a 1-seed, and you make the 4 worst at-large teams play for the chance to face a 5/6 seed.

Seems like it would be better to have those games go against the 4 seeds, but I understand the reasoning.

I'm going to use this comment to vent a little about all the whining about Colorado (I'm not saying you are, but a lot of people are) not getting in.

Colorado - as every other team did - controlled their own destiny at the beginning of the season. Then they lost a game. No matter, college basketball is very forgiving. A loss and you'll still get in. Then they lost 5 games. Still, no matter - they'll get in with 5 losses. They lost 10 games - still okay.

Colorado lost 13 mother effing games! 13! and they are complaining about being left out?! At what point does a team become accountable? I keep hearing about who they beat - so as long as they have some great wins, would people still be complaining had they lost 15 games? Maybe if they lost 20 games would people still complain if they had great wins? Seriously, if 13 isn't enough, how many losses is?

I mean, you're right, win more games and make it so it's not up to the committee to pick someone(s) else over you. But Colorado's resume lines up evenly, if not better than, compared to some of those other at-large teams.

And I would be fine if they got in with 13. Just as I am USC or Penn St. I just don't think any of those teams have any right to actually complain or play the victim role if they don't make it. VA Tech would fall in this category too.

After sitting through what appeared to be a televised ward basketball scrimmage, I am NOT fine with SC or VCU being invited to the festivities.

Seriously, how people can watch these "First Four" games and then give any credence to expanding the field from 64 is way beyond me. very puzzling for someone to be in that camp (not saying you are, of course)
